36 weeks pregnant with twins!

Posted in Pregnancy

Well, it doesn't look like these babies are going anywhere anytime soon. The midwife checked my cervix before the non-stress test today, and it was still long and closed, so that she said she didn't even care if the monitor showed I was having any contractions or not - she was only concerned about how the babies were doing. It took awhile this time, and we ended up only getting one baby at a time, but that was fine.

I've been seeing a chiropractor to help the babies move into a better position so we can have a normall birth. Yesterday evening when I saw her, she and I both thought we felt the first baby's head right above my pelvis where it should be! Unfortunately, the midwife did not confirm this...she only reported that no presenting part was in the pelvis. Even though we could see at least one baby's feet way up high (and she even mentioned that), she kept talking as if both babies were breech. This is the same one who told me 3 weeks ago I could count on a c-section because neither baby was head-down. Today she wasn't quite so adamant but wanted to be sure that I understood that if the first baby wasn't in the right position, surgery would be necessary - OF course I understand! We just don't want an unnecessary Cesarean.

We are praying that the babies will continue to grow steadily and that the first baby will settle into a nice head-down position if she hasn't already. We will have our last (hopefully) ultrasound on Monday, after which the doctor will want to deliver the babies early if they don't show adequate growth. That could mean induction if the cervix is ripe (which seems pretty unlikely at this point) or a c-section if it's not. So it's really important that the babies keep on growing.

I am feeling really good! I've had so much more energy in the last 3 weeks than I had for most of the pregnancy. My house is actually much more organized at the moment (aside from the toys scattered on the floor), and we're almost ready for the babies' arrival (though not quite prepared for Christmas yet). Both carseats are here, one is in the car already, and our double stroller is put together, the babies' bed is in our room just waiting for little ones to fill it. I just need to move the baby blankets and newborn clothes from my son's closet to our room, and pack my bag for the hospital. We are hoping the babies will wait until after the 22nd to be born, as that's when our first round of "reinforcements" (my mother-in-law) arrives. Ideally, we'd like the babies to come after Christmas when my Mom will also be in town. Time will tell.
