twins never go to term, right?

Posted in Pregnancy

Tell that to these 2 little girls who seem perfectly content to stay inside Mommy until (or even past?) their due date.  They've been growing inside for nearly 39 weeks, and they've managed to settle down into breech positions - one often has her head slightly above the other's.  Last week we had an ultrasound, and one of their heads was so high into my ribs that I had to change positions so the technician could get accurate  measurements!

Our doctor has recommended that we plan a c-section at 39 1/2 weeks, but has let us know breech deliveries may be possible if I go into labor on my own before then.  Well, our midwife today didn't think that very likely, so it looks like the girls will be born on December 27 - a week from tomorrow.  The good thing is that my mother will be in town, as will my mother-in-law, 3 sisters-in-law from out of town (plus one from in town)...in fact, it seems that much of my husband's family will be converging on our house for Christmas and the days surrounding it.  We have never had very much family in town for the birth of our babies, and neither my mother or mother-in-law has ever been here when our first 3 were born, so this is going to be so special, even if surgery is necessary to bring these babies into the world.

A week ago the babies weighed 6 lbs, 12 oz, and 6 lbs, 8 oz - babies at this stage gain around an ounce a day, so they should be good sized babies by the time they arrive next week...or sooner.  My first 3 were all between 7 1/2 and 8 lbs at birth.  I'm still feeling pretty good and have more energy than I think I should, though my feet have swollen over the weekend, and my lower back bothers me periodically.

God has really blessed me this pregnancy - though I had a tough time late in the 2nd trimester, these last couple months have been amazingly easy, so that it doesn't seem possible that I could be carrying 2 babies.  I can hardly believe that next week, one way or another, I'll be holding  my 2 precious baby girls.

Jenn-

I am so excited your delivery went okay and you are now the mother of sweet little Ruby and Rose. I can't wait to see my little nieces!! I am glad that Mom Beckley and my Mom and sisters were there to help you out. I wish I could have been too, but with my brood I probably wouldn't have been much help!! :o)

Love you all, give hugs and kisses to the kids from me...
