The Osborne Family

Jan. 4, 2006 - Does anyone else feel like??

I am not sure how typical I am, but boy do I feel bogged down.  I only have two children, but my daily activities make me feel like I have 10.  My girls have piano, gymnastics, swimming, GA's, and church.  We literally have something to do 6 days a week.  Since swimming is a 5 day activity, I just told my 1 daughter that it is now a 3 day activity.  I will tell the coach "that is just the way it is going to be!".  We need to have another day off.  I am seriously contimplating no more GA's, but it's a great social activity for the girls, with great teaching in so many different area's.  Would love feedback on what your thoughts are.  Are you running ragged, or do you think there is, truely, value in this?

Hi! I'm glad to have surfed into your blog tonight! We've had to cut back activities, too. When it was just DS and his activities, we were gone 4-5 days a week. Now that DD has her own activities, I knew we were really going to have to evaluate all the outside activities. DS even had something on Saturdays from 10-2. Every *semester* I resolve to scheduling it all on 1-2 days. Well, I did really well this past fall, but then last week I found out about a 2 day a week art-based preschool program. DD is an art nut and a social creature, so I enrolled her. So, we're back to 3 days of having something, but that's much improved over 6 days. I take it semester by semester to see how *energized* I feel. I've also noticed that several years back I'd see a hs class listed and I'd say to myself, "Yep, we're there!". Now, I REALLY ponder it...what will DS or DD get out of it? How far is it? How much driving time? Of course, gas prices have also affected our decisions. We live outside of town, so gas consumption is a factor, too.
Glad to see you blogging!

I wandered over here from eyecorn's weblog.

About the activities ... that's a tough one. I am not sure what I would do. What do your girls think?

I took a peek at your profile and noticed you have been influenced by the book The Excellent Wife. I have not read it, but have several online friends who are currently reading and discussing it. You might like to "meet" them sometime:
