Apr. 8, 2009 - The Tale of the Naughty Sewing Machine
"I hate sewing" I muttered as I got up from my uncooperative sewing machine. Normally that phrase would never come out of my mouth. My feelings for the craft are totally opposite. I enjoy sewing pieces of fabric together and making them into something beautiful whether it be a quilt or a garment. But at that moment I was extremely frustrated. My sewing machine just wasn't working. It kept making a noise as if the needle was hitting something as it went down. Eventually the needle broke. Ugh it was so frustrating. I want to finish what I am doing!
It was then I decided to quit. For the night at least. Maybe tomorrow would be better.
This wasn't the first time I had to quit because of machine troubles. I had to quit almost every time I had tried to work with it for the last month or so. We had even sent it to get repaired but it just wasn't working right. My feelings toward it had changed from a happy feeling when I sat down at the machine to a feeling of nervousness and fear of what might happen when my foot hit the pedal.
The next day my feelings toward sewing and the feared sewing machine had changed somewhat. I felt optimistic and willing to try to tackle the machine and project again where just the night before I was so frustrated and tired that I didn't want to sew ever again!
I sat down at the sewing machine and brushed it out to make sure I got that needle point out and then put the bobbin in again. Then I sewed on a scrap piece of fabric. So far so good. Nothing was clunking yet.
I started sewing on my project. Everything went fine. Yay!!!!
I started to see the light at the stopping point I had set for this project. I was on my last seam....then clunk....no!!!!.....I kept going. It wasn't a bad clunk. Yet at least. It kept clunking. I kept sewing. There it's done.

Okay I thought so. LOL! You do a lovely job with a sewing machine! From reading your blog last evening, I gather that you work at a quilt shop. Am I correct???

Nice quilt!! Looks hard, too (is it?). But very pretty! I agree, naughty sewing machines can be such a pain at times. Unfortunately, I haven't sewn in ages, so I don't have that problem. Is that a blessing? Or a problem? LOL.
About my braces -- I think I have to have them on for about a year and a half, but I suppose it depends on how well my teeth behave. :o) What colors have you gotten? And how much longer do you have to wear yours?
Thanks for the comment!

Wow, I never expected to see that as your first sentence in any of your posts! :o) lol But we've had quite some sewing machine upsets too! Quilt looks really nice (there still is a hole in it though - it may be warmer if you fix that! hee hee)!! In the end of my Home Ec. book I'm suppose to make a small baby blanket - I've never done anything like that yet, but it should be fun!
Ha ha It must have been funny when they looked in the mirror with they're face all wrote upon - or if they came for breakfast or something before looking in the mirror! :o)
Have a great day!!!
