Jan. 4, 2010 - Christmas Happenings

Happy New Year everybody!!

Here are some pictures of our Christmas, some other day I'll post pictures on our New Year's Eve and our year in review.

Anna doing one of her favorite things - bouncing on her ball and being active!

Christian, our four year old cousin, with his new toy (he loves trains).

The Christmas cards and pom pom snowmen I made this year for family and friends.

One of the top Christmas gifts we got was a trampoline (one of the things Anna really wanted), but we never thought we would get one because Dad said they were to dangerous - boy were we suprised when we found out!  To bad we have to wait until this spring to set it up.  I also bought myself a camera with Christmas money (above)!

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year!

God Bless, Amber

Dec. 24, 2009 - Merry Christmas!

Hey there everybody! I just wanted to wish you all a Merry Christmas and tell you a funny story.

I was talking to my friend on the phone, and we were just having one of our regular dorky conversations when I, out of the blue, say, "Holy Crap! do you know what I just realized?!"

"What?" He asked

"I just now realized it's Christmas Eve, I still thought it was the week before Christmas!" I answered.

So there you go, I guess this was just to remind you how much of a dork I am.

Merry Christmas!

Dec. 22, 2009 - It's The Most Wonderful Time of The Year?

Here are some little known (or maybe unknown) facts that are not paid much attention to (I didn't just write this up on my own - I was looking on the internet and such, I can't not take all the credit on having these ideas ).

How Christmas got started:  It did not start out with Jesus being born in the manger or Santa Claus giving gifts.  It was actually a pagan holiday of worshiping the sun!

Gift Giving:  We may say we're following what the wise men did or after God's Gift to us - but we're giving them to each other - not to Jesus.

The Christmas Tree: Jeremiah 10:2-5 "Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.  For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.  They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.  They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must not go.  Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good."  I also read that the wreath was used to decorate the buildings for worship.

Then, I and most people just think that they're making it into a Christian holiday now, so it's ok.  But check out a few more verses..  Matthew 15:9
"In vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."  Mark 7:9 "Full well lye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

The Candy Cane Legend

Look at the Candy Cane
What do you see?
Stripes that are red
Like the blood shed for me
White is for my Savior
Who's sinless and pure!
"J" is for Jesus, My Lord, that's for sure!
Turn it around
And a staff you will see
Jesus my shepherd
Was born for Me!

(Finally, something Christmas started as Christian!!)

Well, with all that startling news (and only two days until Christmas ), how shall we end this?  Well, I read something in a magazine that was talking on the same thing, that I sort of liked.  It went something like this...  If you feel that you should not do Christmas, then don't.  But don't treat badly the ones that do.

Well, have a very Merry Christmas!!  We're planning to have family over at our house both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but there is also supposed to be a big snow storm starting tomorrow night, I sure hope that doesn't affect to many things!!!

God Bless, Amber

Dec. 9, 2009 - Who Wants To Be a Millionare?

We just watched the movie High Society with Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Celeste Holm and Louis Armstrong. Besides it being a musical version of The Philedalphia Story, it was pretty funny. A lot of one liners. Our favorite part is probably when Sinatra uses the intercom to declare himself as the "Voice of doom" and that "Your days are numbahhed!" We laughed really hard!
This is one of our favorite songs from the movie.

enjoy!

Isn't he cute? Look, joyfully bringing gifts to his true love, with his little page offering a towel too! ah!

The Lords A-Leaping are a hoot.

Aw,I love the illustrations! So vintag-y and ever so festive, even if the guy looks like a girl at times...but hey, its Disney...

Hope you all have a good week! I will try to post more later, but I have been so busy lately:0

A picture thought I'd like to share...
As some of you may know or have hinted from my mentions of it - our church has started a Bible Quizzing team!  We memorize chapters (this year from 1 & 2 Cor. and Titus) and then every first Saturday of the month we compete against other teams.  Well, last time we didn't do so well - let's just our team got 3rd place (last place) every time and I only answered two questions correctly.  This time we got four 3rd places, one 2nd places, and two 1st places!!  And this time I got fourteen questions answered correctly!!!  Anna got five!  So just to say, we are having allot more fun now!!  Below is a picture of us quizzing last month, sorry, no pictures of this time.

Thank you for reading! ~Amber

Oct. 30, 2009 - Our Own Leonberger Puppy!

We are getting a puppy in two weeks!!!  After our beloved Boston Terrier died two month ago (read post), mom's been searching all over for a dog - preferably a large dog to gaurd.  Our top two were the Leonbergers and the Bernese Mountian Dogs.  Well, we finally found a little Leonberger in our price range yesterday!!!  She's still only 5 weeks old so we can make the 3 hour drive to get her in a couple weeks.

Here she is, currently she is called "Dark Green & Orange" since that is the color of nail polish they put on her nails to tell her apart from the rest.  Obviously we will be finding her a better name.

This is our puppy's papa, Braveheart, or Braver.  Don't you just love the name.

This is our puppy's mama, Sweetie Pie.  She is from Canada.

The Leonberger is a giant breed dog with it's foundation in the Newfoundland, Great Pyrenees and Saint Bernard breeds. The breed's name comes from the city of Leonberg, Germany.  According to legend, the Leonberger was bred to look like the lion in the town's crest.  It is a LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog) good at pulling carts & sleds, search & rescue, enjoys water play & hikes, and surprisingly, agility.  It guards with it's size, not with it's teeth and is very loyal to it's flock and family.  The average female (much smaller than the male) is about 27" - 29" to the shoulder and about 130 lbs.

Excitement abounds at our house!!!  We will now be busy getting ready for a big dog - a big change from our little dog!

Thank you for reading!  And thanks to mom for letting me copy most of her dog post to make it easier for me!!

God Bless, Amber
