Nov. 17, 2008 - We make plans, God laughs!
For 2 weeks my DH has planned for us to work on the yard. For 2 weeks the plans have been changed. Last week we had rain. Rain does not work well for clearing and burning brush. This weekend we had to work, and deal with my brother-in-law.
I'd love to say that I have a BIL that's s fine upstanding citizen. I can't. Oh well. It takes all kind of people to make this big ol' world spin.
I love weekends with my family (DH & DS) even when the plans change, because most often it works out better. We really needed some family time, but with our incredibly hectic schedules, and tight finances, we have a difficult time getting that family time.
This weekend we ended up catching up on some TV that we enjoy as a family, talked ate dinner together (AT HOME)...and did not have to 'plan' or spend money to do it. I am re-charged for the week, and feel more connected to my boys.
Ya know, the yard will be there next weekend, and maybe we'll prune the trees, and chop wood, and clear brush, and have a bonfire...and maybe we'll head out to Lubbock to see my ailing grandfather. Who knows? I do know that whatever we do, I will spend time with my family, and I will enjoy every minute I get to spend with them.

Nov. 12, 2008 - TEENS! UGH!!!!
How do so many people in this world live with teens? I swear babies are a lure. They're small, cute, and mostly quiet...well at least not as opinionated!
Don't get me wrong. I love my son (Keep telling yourself that...I love him! I love him! I love him!...) No! Really! I Do! It's just...well...he's stubborn hard-headed and does not listen to a single word I say.
OH! I need to teach a lesson on listening...no not so much listening as following through...No tried that Every Day for the past week...Finally took away cell phone and mp3 player, but Dad overrode the cell phone grounding...we at least verbally....Son's cell is still in my purse! Ha! Now if only I could get in touch with the kid! ARGH!

Nov. 11, 2008 - A day in the life
What a beautiful Monday! The clouds are rolling along. The thunder is booming and the rain is pouring. I love days like this...I love them more when I get to actually SEE them, though! I am a homeschooling mom with a job. My job is primarily data entry...UGH, but it's an income. I like my job, but I work in a windowless room with a drop ceiling...no rain witnessing for me today.
I really do love rainy days I truely think they are beautiful. Maybe it's because I grew up in the dessert of West Texas, so rain is a novelty...and apparently water is too, but more on that in a few...! I can't wait to get home to my retreat and curl up on the couch, open the curtains, put on a DVD, grab a hook, some yarn and get to crocheting, and watching the clouds. But first, I must finish my job, meet DH for a meeting with our financial planner, run errands (need more yarn...and cat food!), nope...no meeting w/ the financial planner, she forgot about an appointment with her daughter, so we'll move that AGAIN! Run errands and FINALLY...drive home! Woo HOO!!! I love my house!
So I finally get home yesterday afternoon to a home where the resident (only) teenaged son has been all day with a list of homework and chores to find...[enter drum-roll here] that he has done none of the things asked of him all day...including getting DRESSED! ARGH! WHAT happened to my kid????? Anyway as I com dragging in with all my parcels (did he come help unload the truck...of course NOT!) He informs me that the water does not work. He does not know what happened, he was in the shower (I said he did not get dressed, not that he did not bathe!) and the water pressure dropped to nothing...SIGH!
We live in the country, well only 15 miles from town, but in the country none-the less; so we are on well water. I love well-water. I love our well pump...when it works! But I have very few mechanical bones...er, um I guess I have NO mechanical bones...in my body, so I first flip the breaker...nothing happens...it really never does, but it does make me FEEL like I've at least tried SOMETHING before I call the husband. Call the DH to tell him that we have no water, but there is no need to rush home, just come home before dark, because it's always easier to fix things in the light rather than the dark.
So 28 minutes later (we live 40 minutes from town...I said country...meaning 5 miles of dirt road, not in the middle of NOWHERE...DH come pulling into the driveway. After fighting with the same old bad switch we've fought for the past 18 months he determines that we must replace the switch on the pump...TODAY!!! Well it's 3:45 on a Monday. We're 40 minutes from town, and we have NO IDEA where to find what we need! [Can anyone see where this might be headed?!]
Now off DH and I run into town against the clock. Should we go to Super Home Improvement Store? Nah, they won't be able to FIND what we want...even if they knew what we were looking for. It's a well pump, is it electrical or plumbing? Call the plumbing supply? Look in the phone book (doesn't EVERYone keep one of those in their truck?) Nope, 'the number is disconnected or no longer in service'. Now what? Oh, Local Hometown Hardware Store Guy should know...nope he's not available...hmmm...who to call...it's now 4:15, and we have no water at home! OOHH Our old landlord is a retired plumber, maybe he knows? Call him...nope he's having surgery tomorrow and cannot talk. But we really have no time for the niceties of 'Oh my what's wrong, hope he's better soon, Can we do Anything? Yep i;m already on the other cell thinking who to call who to call...we're in town now and stores will close any minute.
Eureka! Mega Farm & Ranch Supply Store!!!! They will know what we need!!! YES!.....No! They act like they've never heard of a well pump in their entire lives...They'll be blogging about US tomorrow!! Hmm, well I have a friend that's an electrician...I'm drawing straws, and it's now 4:40...YIKES. These stores are going to start closing at 5:00 Where do we need to go???? Electrician Friend to the rescue! We need to go to An Electrical Supply?and we're about 1 mile from one, whose a dealer for the part we need!!!!
Walk in the door. My phone rings, I start visiting with another mom about something with her daughter, then realize that THEY DON"T HAVE THE PART IN STOCK!!!! NOOOOOOO! Get off phone to help husband! ARGH!
But wait...there's another Electric Supply around the corner, and they close at 5:00 (now 4:54), and this store will look up the number for that store....We call and EUREKA!!! They HAVE the part in stock , AND they will wait for us!!! Hallejuia!
So another great crisis in our lives averted. Dear Husband, again Saved the Day by fixing the well-pump and restoring water and order to our home...He even bought dinner. Now to catch up on laundry, and figure out how to deal with the teen that will not listen, dress, school, read, bathe...wait he did bathe, that's what started it all!
