Diligently Teaching

Aug. 26, 2005 - Math and Marriage???

So I've been homeschooling "real" school for almost 5 years now.  And like many of you, I'm sure, I've tried a *lot* of different curriculums/methods for most all the different subjects I've taught.  And for the most part I've given up on them after a little while- or I've been tempted to try something new when I run across it.  So I am so very happy to say that there's at least one curriculum that I've used each year and keep coming back to.  And I am still thrilled with it-  it's  my math curriculum- Math-U-See.  I just love it!  And my kids have never once complained about math- so I asssume they love it, too.  It's such a relief to walk that huge curriculum vendor floor at the FPEA convention and know there's at least a few booths I can totally skip- there just can't be anything out there better for my family then Math-U-See!

Now I'm not trying to critize any other math curriculums- I'm sure there are many, many fantastic ones out there- that's not my point in this blog.  I'm just saying- it's really, really great to find "the one".  Kind of like my husband- I'm sure there's other great guys out there- but none of them are just right for me like *my* husband is- so I don't even entertain the thought of looking for another (I'm sure my husband will be so relieved to read this, lol).  Of course, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your man- no doubt he's just right for you, too!

Now if I could just be as faithful to what I choose for history, language arts, science, and everything else besides my math!

Have you found your "one and only" curriculum?  I'd love to hear what it is!

We are on our 7th or 8th year of using Math-u-See also. We also love Pathway Readers and the accompanying workbooks for Reading, Reading Comprehension and in the lower grades phonics and grammar!

I love Beautiful Feet unit studies (for history and geography), Considering God's Creation unit study (for science) and my favorite textbook of all... The Bible!

I really like Spelling Workout by Modern Curriculum Press. Its lessons are thorough and laid out well. I also stick with Bob Jones Math-my kids enjoy it and love to "do math".

Just random blogging . I have enjoyed your blog .
My favorites for math are BJU for my oldest and Christian Light for my middle daughter.
I guess I'm a curriculum junkie. I too am still trying to find my all time favorites for the other subjects too.

Jun. 19, 2006 - I don't have a solid answer yet...

because we are just starting but I hope I will want to stick with what I've chosen! I'm going to see if doing a lot of research and reading will make a difference, since that's what I've been doing since January when we decided to homeschool for dd's first grade year. Just stopping by to make new friends, come by and visit sometime!
Blessings, Jessica

Feb. 4, 2007 - Hi

I am so glad to hear that you enjoy that curriculum. I am getting ready to purchase it for my three younger children. I have heard that a lot of home schoolers really like it. I am just finally finding the shoe that fits for me in the subjects. It seems to take a while to do that (for me that means at least five years with a lot of bumps in the road-he,he). Anyway, nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing.

what a great reminder that not every curriculum works for every family. And thanks for the reminder that if it ain't broke- don't fix it!
