The Dash of Life

Feb. 8, 2007 - Who's My Valentine!

Posted in Valentines

Here's what we'll be doing for some Valentine's fun.

This will start a few days before Valentine's Day.   Each day the kids will be assigned a family member.  We'll rotate through names until everyone has had each person in the family for one day.  We won't be keeping names a secret.  And we'll be including mom in the mix!  (Dad will have to get some other kind of special treatment - I'm still working on that idea.)

So, each day everyone is to do 3 things for their assigned person (Valentine).  It can be things like make a card or craft for them, make their bed, help them clean their room, do one of their chores, play their favorite game, read their favorite book to them, etc.  But it has to be something the Valentine will appreciate!

At dinner each night we will talk about the things they did for their Valentine of the day.

My secret mission behind this is twofold:

1) To teach them to look for ways to be kind to and help others.

2) To learn to appreciate things others do for you or give to you even if you think you might have appreciated something else more.

Leave a Note!

Hi Jill,
You are always coming up with good ideas. I wonder if I could do this with my crew. I usually have good intentions, but my follow through isn't always the best. I tend to forget! But I know my family would love this idea. Thanks.

Jill, once again you win the award for most creative mother, we will just sit thinking we're failing and will never match up to you (this of course is a joke, I'll ruin my children in lots of other areas as well). You do such a good job, and we'll just steal your ideas or think about stealing your ideas. I wished you lived near by and I'd drop my kids off for you to do your magic. What do you mean you just got a cold chill down your spine. It's o.k to thank God I'm in Australia, with my FAT head that's half cut out.

Jill,
What a great way to teach your kids about serving others! You'll have to let us know what the kids do for each other. I'm sure they will be so cute!
