Jun. 27, 2008 - I Was Fired!
I was left cleaning the kitchen all by myself after an unusually late dinner. The children had all deserted me in order to do their bedtime routine. My 5 year old son yelled down from his bedroom, "Hey mom! I don't have any clean underwear!"
"Sorry!", I answered back.
He bellowed in reply, "You're fired!"
"Good!", I retorted, "I'll just go find a family where the kids all do their own laundry!"
My nervey little son shot back with, "That's a fairy tale! You're stuck with us!"
I have no doubt that my husband was feeding my son his lines!
(By the way, my 8 yr old has been helping with the laundry for a couple years. Recently, my 5 yr old daughter asked me to teach her how to work the washing machine and dryer. Guess I better get right on that!)

My older kids (11 and 13) take turns doing their own laundry, and they have been for some time. This started because I was tired of washing all the clothes they were too lazy to hang up. You should see how many FEWER clothes they wear in a week now, lol. My 8 yo will start doing hers in about 6 mos. Yay!

I'da been jumping up and down at the news that I'd been fired. Assuming that means fired from *everything*, I would have immediately quit doing the dishes, as well.
My 17-y/o has been doing her own laundry for years. The youngers (9 & 12) FOLD their own laundry, as all my kids have done since they were little, but I do not yet have them helping to DO the laundry. My olders were doing that before this age. Guess I'd better quit babying them and get on with that training.

That's so funny, Jill!
We joke about that here -- they can't fire me! Slaves have to be sold!!! ;^)
Seriously, though, good luck getting your chore chart back in service! Whip those kids into shape!!! :^)
