Becoming Wiser

Feb. 3, 2006 - Where is your birthday?

I have come to realize that my son thinks his birthday is a PLACE! We celebrated my oldest daughter's birthday last month and Alexander wanted to know if it was HIS birthday, too. He was told, "Your birthday is in March."

I thought he had understood what that meant because he is constantly telling people that his birthday is in March! But THEN, he'd say, "Yeah. We should GO there!"

So that was my first clue. Then the other day, he and I were the first ones up in the morning and he wanted to show me where everything was. He started with objects in our house, and then he started pointing in different directions. "That's the way to Nanny's house. That's the way to Grandma's house." And then..."That's the way to my birthday."

Ha ha ha! It was so cute. I guess he may be a little young to fully grasp the concept of time. Two months is a LONG time for a two year old!

Jan. 26, 2006 - My Daughter Is Published!!!

I was VERY pleased to see that the poem Gabrielle wrote when she was 5 has been published in the school newsletter. (In Canada, we have to register with a school, even if we homeschool.)

Here's her poem:

I wish I was a chocolate bar
A-sitting on a shelf
I'd stop and stare
With loving care
And then I'd eat myself!

Jan. 25, 2006 - A Treat from God!

Gabrielle just came inside, very excited. "Mommy, I just realized that I have TWO treats today. One is that we get to ride our bikes on the road. That's a treat from YOU. And the other one, is a treat from GOD! It's WINTER and there's usually snow all over the ground in winter, but NOT TODAY! It feels like SPRING!"

So cute! (I don't let them ride on the road unless I'm there to supervise.)

Dec. 15, 2005 - "Mom, why am I homeschooled?"

Today, Gabrielle was doing her schoolwork and she asked me, "Mom, why am I homeschooled?" Well...I started the explanation with the reason that *I* love to spend time with her. *I* love to teach her. And *I* love to learn along with her. Her response: "MO-OM! You don't ALWAYS have to have all the attention!" HA HA HA HA HA! Okay...so I guess maybe some of my reasons for homeschooling ARE a bit selfish. Am I bad?
