John Eight Thirty Two

• Apr. 19, 2007 - Passover photos 3 - the travels begin

The day of Passover we rested.  Our guests had arrived the day before and we had never met them prior to that so it was good to get to know each other.  Also, all the activities surrounding the Passover meal and preparation were quite exhausting.

The very next day we started traveling.  We had other people join us and we went to Tel Gezer and Beit Guvrin.
We took so many photos it is hard to choose but I wanted to show you the beauty of the Land after the rainy season as well as some of the ruins.

What you see there is ruins of a city wall and gate.  The tourism and conservation boards here work in conjunction with the antiquities department to make these places tourist friendly hence the bridge and paths.  You will see this in other sights I share with you over the next few days too.

Here is a close up of the wild flowers.   I know this is nowhere near where Jesus said these words nevertheless I am reminded of Matthew 6:28b Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
On with the ruins of Tel Gezer......  This is the remains of the Solomonic Gate of Gezer.  (Solomon's style was to build these rooms in the gates, two rooms in width and double story)  Please note the drainage system leading out of the city.  This Tel is about 30 acres in size!  Solomon was given this city as a dowry gift!

Something else Tel Gezer is famous for is its Standing Stones.  This was a place where sacrifices and ritual worship occurred, to pagan gods.  There are remains of altars and basins, all part of the sacrificial rites of paganism.  The kings of Israel were told to tear these down.  Some did and some didn't.

I will end with this photo of a plant that is my favourite colour!

I will post pictures of Beit Guvrin in Passover photos 4.
