• May. 2, 2007 - Passover photos 4

So, I am still in catch up mode here.....

As promised, here are pictures of Beit Guvrin.  Sadly, most of the pictures are of underground caves and they are not very clear so there are only two to show you.  I hope you get the idea nevertheless.  Amazing how people lived!!!!  In the first picture I bet you don't know where the caves are.

This update is nearly a month overdue but nevertheless, the pictures will still tell the story.  I briefly touched on the details of this day in my 2 days of catching up post. On the 5th of April 2007 we had an early start and headed North.  Our first stop was Tel Megiddo.   I have a lot of photos from that day but I will try and be selective.   The view of the Valley of Armageddon is quite spectacular from the top of the Tel.
Tel Megiddo is one of the most important archaeological mounds in Israel for biblical times. The city was inhabited continuously for more than five millennia (6000-500 B.C.). It contains the remains of historic Megiddo, a fortified city that rested strategically on the ancient main road from Egypt to Syria and Mesopotamia.  Within the Tel itself there was a lot of interesting stuff to see among the ruins and reconstructions.  One was the Caananite altar.  Can you see that circular pile of rocks?  It was used in idol worship including live sexual acts and human (baby) sacrifices.  (YUCK) The Lord repaid this with eventual slavery for the Israelites. (well hello!)

Onto more pleasant things.....  There were horses stabled there and water troughs were found.
Here is a reconstruction.....
I will end Tel Megiddo with this photo of the underground water system.  Absolutely amazing what people did without modern technology.  The Human Race is not progressing, nobody can convince me otherwise!
