John Eight Thirty Two

• May. 2, 2007 - Passover photos 5

Leaving Tel Megiddo behind us we traveled North.  There is a mountain (it is really a big hill but don't tell anyone ) called Mt Tabor.  Tradition has it that this is where the Transfiguration took place.  There is a monastery built at the top.  Magnificent view of the Jezreel Valley from the top no doubt.
We carried on North to the Sea of Galilee.  It is so beautiful there, I love it. Here is more of the lake.  Yes, the name Sea of Galilee is misleading.  This is not salty, it is where a lot of our drinking water comes from. One can drive around the whole lake, the views are just spectacular.  This photo of the Sea of Galilee was taken from Capernaum, the town where Jesus lived for a while, probably with Simon Peter and his family.
It was really enjoyable seeing the really well preserved ruins of this town.  Look at this olive press for example.Look at the Galilean hills surrounding the city.
See the mosaics below?  If you can imagine that the ruins used to be walls, floors, ceilings all covered with plaster and mosaics like these......I'll end the day with this picture of the synagogue in Capernaum.
It is here where Jesus taught “as one who had authority, and not as the scribes” (Mark 1:21). It is also where Jesus was confronted by a demon possessed man while teaching (Mark 1:21-27), and where Jesus healed the servant of the centurion (Luke 7:3), and gave his sermon on the bread of life (John 6:35-59).  The original stones are under the ones you can see.
