• May. 20, 2007 - Update in pictures - warning (gruesome thumb)

On Friday I made this cake:

On Saturday we went to a National Park called Appolonia.  Its other name is Tel Arshaf.  I won't go into too much detail here because it will come up when I write about our Passover travels, but I must just post these pictures so you can see how beautiful it was.
We wanted to dive off the cliff into this water.  The Med is beautiful!
As time goes by, the cliff erodes away and these ruins will fall down into the sea.
We went swimming in it today and it was totally different.  The weather was overcast and it changes the colour, sorry, no pictures of today.

What I can also update you on is my thumb.  The one that I stabbed to the bone.....

This is a picture without the dressing one and a half weeks after the accident.  I am so grateful!!!  I might have to post a picture of the product I used to seal this deep gash.  I am so glad I didn't further traumatise the area with suturing......
It has healed very well on the outside without any infection.  Thank you all for your prayers, God is good!!!  Just to try and explain from this picture....there is absolutely no sensation from the cut line to the left and around to the nail.  It might be that I will not ever regain feeling there but only time will tell.  I still have a lot of pain on the nail and nail bed but this is getting better.  I have since been able to properly clean the nail with less pain so that is good.  The bone is aching less every day.
Thanks again for your sympathy and prayers.

Please keep praying for Michael.

I'm back :) Your cake looks incredible have I told you that, I believe I have but I really think you have a serious future in cake decorating, from now on my children will scoff at every cake I bake.
Good to see your thumb on the mend and from how you explain stabbing to the bone, TO THE BONE, it would have been quite horrendous you are very brave.

Hello Darya! Tracy sent us over from her blog to take a look at your cake. It is amazing! I have made many birthday cakes, but I can't say that any have ever been so creative. Curious George, right? The other pictures are great too. I'm thankful that you didn't lose your thumb too and will pray for continued healing.

Blessings,
Lori

Hiya!
I stopped by to offer a belated "thanks for stopping by!" (We do seem to have a good recipe, don't we?)

We decorate cakes, too, but avoid sculpted cakes - congratulations on doing such an incredible job!
Your pics of the sea are gorgeous!
I'll have to catch up on reading your blog and find out what happened to your thumb -ouch!
Offering up a prayer for continued healing...
In Him,
Michelle

Oh my! I read this the other day, but had to run and could not leave you a comment.
Your cake is so cute, you are very talented lady!
Concerning your thumb, my DH had a similar problem, the doctor told him to wait a month or so, to see if he could regain the feeling on it, it did not come back, they had to do microscopic surgery on the nerve. He only got about 80 of the nerve feeling back. Work your thumb up and down very slowly, keep it moving, but make sure it's slow. I wil pray for this to heal without the help of surgery. I would love to know what medication you used. that's a huge cut. I am so glad it's healing well.
Blessings to you,

Hi Darya,
Thanks for the great story about the lost diamonds! I am going to see if I can find it on the web somewhere. I can think of a good spiritual application, and since I am in desperate need of a topic for my church newsletter, I am grateful you told me about it.
God bless you~
Sally
PS How's the thumb? I cut my finger pretty deep once, and also had trouble with feeling for a long time after it healed. But it all came back eventually.
And hey, beautiful photos. I saw the Mediterranean when I was little... would love to go again!
And one more thing, don't post any more pictures of cute cakes. My kids will never be happy with their simple little 13x9, chocolate frosted birthday cakes again!
