We went to a lovely family wedding on Thursday night.  I thought you might like to see the photos.  For the sake of anonymity, I can't show highly detailed pics but hopefully you will enjoy what I can show you .

So, yes, Thursday is not an unusual day to have a wedding here.  Functions of any sort are not held on a Sabbath.  It is a new trend here that people might not work on Friday anymore, so the weekend kind of begins on Thursday evening and ends on Sunday morning.  We drove about an hour and a half South down to Ashkelon to a hotel where the occasion was held.  The whole time the festivities were going, we heard bombs falling a few kilometers away.  (about 4 or 5kms)
Despite all of that, the wedding was a lot of fun and a great feeling of celebration was in the air .  The bride had a very unusual bouquet.
After the very short ceremony where the bride and groom exchanged vows, the bouquet was taken around and people pulled out the sweeties and munched them.  But I am jumping ahead.....  First there were snacks by the pool.
There were 4 of these stations all serving different foods.  This one above had tortillas with guacamole, cream cheese and salad which were prepared as we waited.
Let me try and explain this to you.  In the bowl on the right is humus.  Below that and slightly out of the picture is sliced, hard-boiled eggs.  Totally out of the picture on that side is sliced, boiled potatoes. The platter on the left has fried eggplant slices on it.  On a large, flat bread called lafa, the waitress spread first the humus, then the egg, potato and eggplant.  She then rolled up the lafa and cut it into these little rolls, pouring mustard sauce on the top.  Interesting, huh?  These pickled vegetables, olives and slices of pickled cucumber we could help ourselves to.
So, while we were munching on those things, we took a photo of the sunset over the sea.  It was a great location for a wedding don't you think?
Can you see the stage in the back, on the left side of the photo?  That is where they had a d.j. and between the tables and the stage there was a dance floor where a lot of people danced the night away.
The two other stations had interesting food too.  One had crisp little garlic breads drizzled with herbed tahina with a fried cube of halumi cheese.  The other place had this flat pizza type base with pesto and roasted peppers, mushroom and eggplant.  All very unusual.
That was the sunset a little bit later as we waited for the ceremony to begin.
As you can tell it was an outdoor event and the couple walked down the aisle on flower petals.  Let me let you in on a little secret   This couple got married a month ago in Cyprus.  They did this to avoid having to have a Rabbinic ceremony.  So, they had this short little exchange of vows and beautiful words said to each other under the Huppa.  Then there was lots of dancing and we ate the main course.  It was a dairy meal, no meat at all because there were quite a few Religious people there who believe that eating meat and milk products together is not kosher.  There were different vegetables, but mostly eggplant done in a various ways.  I'm a MEAT gal myself .  So, it was great to be with family and we drove home in good time.  We got to sleep after 1am and my poor dear husband had to work the next day.  I had to bake a cake.  We don't have another wedding until November.......... but we do have another family function in July.  I will keep you posted.

What beautiful pictures. I love the one of the couple at the alter. Interesting foods. I'm not a real veggie person, meat, potatoes and bread, thats me. But I probably would have tried some of it. I love hearing about the different traditions out there. So sorry to hear about the bombs. I was wondering how it was for you and your family, not really knowing exactly where you are. I'm thankful you are all safe. :)
