John Eight Thirty Two

• Sep. 15, 2007 - A special birthday

Because our son was born in 2000, the year will always reflect his age.  This year was more special to him because the date was 7 September, he turned 7 and it is 2007!  He counted down the months, weeks, days, hours and minutes.  Even on the 7th, he would not accept that he was 7 until 9:10pm.  He is very much into precision

We had a get together at our friends' house with a bunch of other friends; a picnic pot-luck with a special cake.  It was a "Dr Seuss" Solar System cake.

Can you see how accurate it is and how it is completely in proportion and a scale model replica of the Milky Way?

Sadly, the photo doesn't do all the sparkling dusting powders any justice.  The rings around 'Saturn' actually gleamed silver.  After we finished singing the birthday song to him in a few different languages, the boy picked up the sun and started to eat it!!!  All the other young folk saw this and a mad scramble for the planets began.  I watched one young thing pop the whole moon into her mouth....  it was a special evening.  The cake was a chocolate toffee thing.  All the frosting was coloured white chocolate.

The next day, we had ANOTHER party, this time for our friends in our neighbourhood.  We were also joined by Darrensgirl and some of her children.  We had a WONDERFUL time with our special friends!  We had all the usual snack things and I made a finger food lunch.  We had left over cake from the night before and I added some psychedelic cupcakes.  The birthday boy chose the colours.

I can't believe how my son has grown.  What an honour it is for me to be his mother.  From the cuddles first thing in the morning to the cuddles and deep questions last thing at night, I could eat this child up.  He never ceases to amuse and amaze and astound (sometimes shock) .  He challenges me in ways I never thought I could be challenged but God knew what He was doing and thought I was the best one for the job.   My boy is a hard worker, very bright and diligent and as he enters his 8th year I look forward to seeing him grow some more into who God wants him to be.  I pray that I don't mess up; this is one little mighty warrior who needs the best training!

I love you my boy!

Hi,
I was just learning about the solor sytem in science! That cake looks neat! Did you make it, and are the planets made out of frosting?

Wow, this is great! How did you keep the planets so round? I don't think I ever had this kind of chocolate cake, it sounds so delicious. The cup cakes are very pretty, I've done that to a large cake.
