• Sep. 15, 2007 - Feast of Trumpets - Yom Teruah

Leviticus 23:24 says "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first [day] of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation."

Numbers 29:1-7 says, "
And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have a holy convocation: ye shall do no manner of servile work; it is a day of blowing the horn unto you.

For followers of Judaism, the holiday of Rosh HaShanah  (head of the year - New Year) has come to an end.  During this time, the tradition involves lots and lots of sweetness, all symbolic of a sweet year to come.

Biblically, this is NOT the head of the year and NOT the New Year.
The actual beginning of the year is described in Exodus 12:2 which states, "This month will be for you the beginning of months; It is first of the months of the year". After this explicit statement the Torah proceeds to describe the ceremony of the Passover sacrifice which is to take place in this First month. Similarly, Leviticus 23 and Numbers 28 list the holidays and both passages describe Passover in the First month and Yom Teruah in the Seventh month.  Thus there can be no question that the "beginning of months" mentioned in Exodus 12:2 refers to the first of Nissan (in which Passover is celebrated) and not to Yom Teruah which takes place in the Seventh month.  The Rabbis claim that later in the Tanach, Yom Teruah is referred to as Rosh Hashanah.   It is true that the expression 'Rosh Hashanah' does appear in Ezekiel 40:1 which reads, "In the beginning of the year (Rosh Hashanah) on the tenth of the month". The fact that Ezekiel 40:1 refers to the tenth day of "Rosh Hashanah" makes it clear that the reference here is to the entire First month and not to the first day of the year.  Even if Ezekiel is referring to the 1st day of the 1st month there is no justification to say he is referring to anything other than the 1st day of Aviv/Nissan (First month).  Maybe by now, readers of my blog are well aware that I do not follow the teachings of the Rabbis, I especially do not put a "Messianic spin" on Rabbinic customs and rituals.  Candy coating rubbish just makes it taste better and mixing things up makes them neither fish nor fowl.

Isaiah 58:1
Cry loudly, do not hold back; Raise your voice like a trumpet, And declare to My people their transgression And to the house of Jacob their sins.

Numbers 10:1-10
"The LORD spoke further to Moses, saying,

Make yourself two trumpets of silver, of hammered work you shall make them; and you shall use them for summoning the congregation and for having the camps set out.

When both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

Yet if only one is blown, then the leaders, the heads of the divisions of Israel, shall assemble before you.

But when you blow an alarm, the camps that are pitched on the east side shall set out.

When you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that are pitched on the south side shall set out; an alarm is to be blown for them to set out.

When convening the assembly, however, you shall blow without sounding an alarm.

The priestly sons of Aaron, moreover, shall blow the trumpets; and this shall be for you a perpetual statute throughout your generations.

When you go to war in your land against the adversary who attacks you, then you shall sound an alarm with the trumpets, that you may be remembered before the LORD your God, and be saved from your enemies.

Also in the day of your gladness and in your appointed feasts, and on the first days of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; and they shall be as a reminder of you before your God. I am the LORD your God."

Thank you for this information.
I wish you would write a book about the Biblical Feasts. The only thing on the market is full of "traditions and man made ideas" not a clear explanation of what God has asked of us!!

I would buy it.........then fly over to have you sign it!!
