John Eight Thirty Two
• Dec. 30, 2007 - What we've been up to - part two (photos)
This entry is about our washing machine. I apologise for the poor quality of this photo but it is the best I could do.
It is a sweet little (very tiny) top loader that has served us faithfully for 7 years. It has a 5kg load capacity and we have used it WELL. 5 Kilograms is not very much so I did at least 2 loads a day for 6 days of the week. So, one fateful evening it stopped working and I didn't even have a premonition of what was to come........
In the morning we called the insurance company to send a technician. The soonest they could send someone was 4 days from then. Because I had been ill, I had already not done washing for 3 days and there was a small hill of laundry waiting. The family was immediately put on clothing rations and recycling
We were so excited when the technician came because we could finally do laundry! Or so we thought..... The man showed my wonderful dh what the problem was. The belt had come off and had mangled all the electric wiring. It was all in a bunch! After the technician repaired and rewired everything, we insisted that he look at a different part of the machine because it had been leaking a substantial amount of water. So, he looked and told us the bad news. It needed a new part and that would take a few days to order. Then he said, "This machine is well used and you will be calling for a technician a LOT. I suggest you get a new machine."
Well, we did not wake up that morning thinking that we would be purchasing a new machine that day! I am so glad I was not home alone. Having dh home meant that he made the decision and I didn't have to. When he is at work I can not contact him and this could have gone on for a few more days had he not been on holiday. As it turned out, we got the new machine on Friday but the technician could only come today to set it all up for us. I have never been so excited to do laundry! The hill had become a mountain range.....
Here is our newest electronic member of the family.

It is FANCY SHMANCY! It is digital and it has a 7kg capacity! I will only have to do one load a day instead of two!!! See the tiles on the floor? They are over 100 years old. When this home was built, they could not have imagined what would be standing there over 100 years later.
