• Feb. 12, 2008 - Are E.R. visits ever scheduleable.....
because it certainly wasn't in my schedule today!
It involved a boy and an incorrect usage of a chair. My back was turned so I didn't see what happened and even though there were offers for a re-enactment I turned them down! The bottom line is that fingers were squashed and the type of crying that followed told me immediately that something wasn't right. This boy only cries (sometimes) if he doesn't get his way; there has to be severe pain to warrant a cry and especially 'that' kind of cry. The boy changed colour. He went very pale and started shivering.
I saw all my plans for the afternoon fly out of the window. There were immediate shouts from the children to take photos, "to put on your blog Mommy!" And so I complied.....
The fingers started swelling and they also changed colour.
I know the pictures are not very clear, they were NOT taken with our very special and wonderful camera, they were taken with my phone.

Apart from the purple, blue and red, there were also white welts.
Can you see the difference?
We went to the doctor. The doctor gave us a special application form to go to the E.R. (that is how it works here). A wonderful friend agreed to take us, even though she had to change all her plans! I am so grateful to her and her dh.
When we got there, we were directed to the 'admissions' room. There were lots of people lying in beds in various degrees of distress. We were then sent to the Orthopedic specialist. He had a look and sent us for X-rays. We went down the hall and had X-rays taken. Up to that point things had gone really quickly. Waiting for the results took over an hour. Then, the results! Ring finger broken, middle finger cracked. I was quite upset that the results are on a computer screen and I have no hard copy to keep!
So, back to the Orthopedic specialist.....
Lots of different bandages and Plaster.

We go back to the specialist on Sunday.
I count this as educational!
