• Apr. 22, 2008 - First Fruits - Happy Resurrection Day!!!!!

Last year I spent a lot of time talking about how the commanded Feast of Passover prophesied Jesus' crucifixion and the days leading up to it.  This entry is to try and show how the commanded Feast of Firstfruits prophesied His resurrection!!

Leviticus 23

1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies.

The Sabbath
3 " 'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.
The Passover and Unleavened Bread
4 " 'These are the LORD's appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times: 5 The LORD's Passover begins at twilight on the fourteenth day of the first month. 6 On the fifteenth day of that month the LORD's Feast of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. 7 On the first day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. 8 For seven days present an offering made to the LORD by fire. And on the seventh day hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work.' "
Firstfruits
9 The LORD said to Moses, 10 "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'When you enter the land I am going to give you and you reap its harvest, bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest. 11 He is to wave the sheaf before the LORD so it will be accepted on your behalf; the priest is to wave it on the day after the Sabbath. 12 On the day you wave the sheaf, you must sacrifice as a burnt offering to the LORD a lamb a year old without defect, 13 together with its grain offering of two-tenths of an ephah of fine flour mixed with oil—an offering made to the LORD by fire, a pleasing aroma—and its drink offering of a quarter of a hin of wine. 14 You must not eat any bread, or roasted or new grain, until the very day you bring this offering to your God. This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come, wherever you live.

Exodus 23
14 "Three times a year you are to celebrate a festival to me.

15 "Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread; for seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt.
"No one is to appear before me empty-handed.

16 "Celebrate the Feast of Harvest with the firstfruits of the crops you sow in your field.
"Celebrate the Feast of Ingathering at the end of the year, when you gather in your crops from the field.

17 "Three times a year all the men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD.

Seventeenth day of the month ( 3 days after Passover the 14th day)

Luke 24

1On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb. 2They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, 3but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. 5In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? 6He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: 7'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.' " 8Then they remembered his words.

1 Corinthians 15
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve.

20But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. 22For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 23But each in his own turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him.

Colossians 1
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

What we have been up to:

We got rid of all the yeast in our house and also baking powder which is classified as a leavening agent in my dictionary.  So, no bread, no cookies, no cakes that contain yeast or baking powder.  It was a lot of fun to read the scriptures with our children and then they helped clear out yeast and leaven and throw it out.

For the Passover meal we had friends around, we roasted the lamb with bitter herbs, made our own unleavened bread..... very similar to last year, just smaller and more intimate.  It was very special.  The Feast of unleavened bread began on the 15th, we are enjoying making our own matzah.  We stocked up on flour for a few weeks before because the Rabbis have decided that everything containing flour or that swells is not kosher for Passover.  How can you make bread without yeast without flour??  It is possible to buy self raising flour made with potato starch and leavening agents.  Go figure.....  anyway, moving right along....  Firstfruits......

This year, the 17th day of Nissan fell on Tuesday 22 April.  We read all about the Resurrection, prophecies relating to this momentous occasion and why it is important to remember and observe!  We also had a meal - lamb, unleavened bread, olive oil and wine.  HALLELUJAH, HE IS ALIVE!!!

What a great entry. It's so interesting to read all the scriptures on the different feasts. Thanks for sharing them.
Your meal sounds yummy, I'm sure it was a blessed time. :)
