John Eight Thirty Two

• Apr. 23, 2008 - long overdue update

As much as I have wanted to blog, there has just been too much emotional stuff going on and things I had to process.  Still, I think you need to get caught up.

Some time back we took in a refugee child.  I blogged about it here and here.  The dear child was with us for a full month and a few days.  In that time we laughed a lot, learned a lot and were frustrated a lot.  His family and friends from Eritrea kept putting immense pressure on him to earn money to send to them.  We are amazed that it is expected of such young children to take on the responsibility of providing for their older siblings, parents and extended family.  Anyway, after much negotiating, pleading and compromising on our part  he chose to go back to his old life.  We were heartbroken; devastated that he and more importantly his family couldn't see that a stable and secure life with a family, education and complete care was the best option for him.  We hear every few weeks that he is not doing well and he misses us but he just has to keep looking for work to keep his family off his back.  It is still a painful subject but now there is another chapter.  There is a little girl who is needing a home.  We have known about her for the last 6 weeks.  We are at the stage of waiting to hear if she will come and live with us be deported.  As soon as I am at liberty to share more details I will.

The dear friend of mine who was in an accident and that I blogged about here  and here is now back in her home country.  She was flown (med-evac) and has continued to improve slowly but surely.  The last update I had, Cindy was in between stage 3 and 4 of THIS scale.  Her bones are almost completely healed and they are closing up the hole in her trachea.  She is off life support and has really come a LONG way since I last posted.  I do appreciate prayers for Cindy and her family.

On a personal note, we have been going through a time of much uncertainty and even though we know that God has never let us down and always provides, we do not enjoy being in this situation.  On a different note, my wonderful husband's grandmother passed away in her home country and it is hard being so far away from family at a time like this.

So, I have been pre-occupied and blogging and visiting blogs has not been first and foremost on my mind.  I apologise and I am grateful to all of you faithful readers of my blog that have not given up on me.

Glad to hear Cindy is doing better. Thanks for the update. And don't worry about not being around much, we all have times like that. :)
