Still here

I did mention in my first blog that I don't blog much.  Here's my next blog - 2 years later.  Nuff said.

We are now going on our 3rd year of home schooling and all its ups and downs - choosing curriculum, finding curriculum, keeping the kids on track and focused, managing a household budget with one income, and many other "home school issues" as it were.  Through everything, I am very satisfied with my children's progress since we began this odyssey.  They have grown in every area.  I was a little concerned with the "social" aspects but have found that they are actually more rounded even in that arena.  All in all it's been challenging but a great experience for us all.

Looking forward with joy and a little trepidation to this coming year.  The older they get, the more I worry about making sure we cover enough.  With planning, determination, patience, and mostly prayer we'll have a great year.  So --- anyone out there who reads this - whisper a little prayer for us.  We'd be grateful!

First timer

Welp, I'm not a "blogger" by nature but have felt the benefits of reading that others have similar issues and what-not.  So.....
This is my first year homeschooling.  I have a 6th grader and 3rd grader.  They were public schooled prior to this year.  I also have 3 older children who all went through the public school system.  Yup, one of the reasons I decided to homeschool.  I saw first-hand that there was something missing in the education part of public education - academically, yes, but in many other areas as well.
It's been a challenging year.  We started out strong but find we're losing some of the momentum as we approach the Summer months.  Trying to stay on schedule but learning to be flexible.  I had to remind myself of some of the reasons I chose to homeschool in the first place.  One of which was so the children weren't pushed into an unrelenting schedule but allowed to work at a pace that actually let them learn the material.  You know, move ahead when you have the concept down & linger a bit when you find you need to work on it more.  We are all learning so much through this experience.  I hope I learn one of the most important lessons - to allow school to be a fun growing process and not suck all the life out of my children in an effort to "teach" them and keep them on schedule.
