Joyful Chaos

Kids, cars and ticks........oh my!

Daltons end of season party for his little league team was yesterday.  We headed over there, obligatory baked beans in hand, around 11:30.  The party was at his coaches house.  They had a nice yard with a baseball field marked off, a playset, and a pool.  Everything was going great until Brads phone started ringing.  First it was Patrick (oldest ds) with a banking emergency that he needed help with.  We were not in a position to deal with it, and a bit irritated that we are still needing to at his age.  Luckily he called back a few minutes later to tell us that the emergency was averted, he had made assumptions that weren't true.  Then Allyson called.  She had been fishing with the youth from church at a members house in Maryland.  She told Brad she needed something but wouldn't elaborate, and got directions to where we were.  She showed up and said she needed help checking for ticks.  She was covered!!  We took her around the house to the driveway as to not track them into the house.  She removed her t-shirt (had an undershirt on), her shoes and socks, and rolled up her jeans.  We removed no less than 10 or 12 ticks from her.  To compound matters, she is terrified of many bugs, especially ticks, so she was near hysterical during all of this.  After we got her cleaned up, she headed home to change.  She is working on her lifeguard certification with our local Boy Scout Venture Crew.

We got back to the party, it was about lunch time.  The kids had a great time in the pool and playing baseball with the team.  We finally got ready to go at about 4:00, of course had to drag the kids away.  We loaded up in the Suburban and then found we had a dead battery.  It took Brad, the coach and a neighbor about a half hour to finally get it jumped so we could drive home.  Brad removed the battery and took it to the auto parts store, of course it needed replaced.  We now have a brand new battery and are back in business.

The evening was relatively quiet, but I was awoken at 12:30 by Allyson telling me she was sick.  She and a friend had gone to the drive in but had to leave early because Allyson didn't feel well.

It was definitely a long day, but I am glad the car trouble happened on a day that Brad was there to help and we weren't headed somewhere.  And I am grateful that our teen and adult kids come to us with their troubles, even if we wish they could tackle them on their own sometimes!  lol
