Joyful Chaos

Long day in L&D

No, not for myself!  I had an ob appointment scheduled for this morning at 10:50.  While talking to Patrick (my oldest son) last night, I found out that my daughter in law had an ob appointment at 11:20.  Patrick volunteered to sit with the little boys in the waiting room while I had my appointment so they didn't all have to come in the exam room.  I picked the two of them up and we headed up to the dr.  My appointment was uneventful except for the fact that I had to wait in the exam room for about a half hour for the dr.  I gained 6 lbs since last month, blood pressure was fine as usual, babies heartrate was about 140, and I was measuring 24 cm at 23 weeks and a couple of days.

I came out of the office to find out that ddil's appointment did not go quite as well.  Her blood pressure was high and she has been having frequent headaches and stomach upset, so off to the hospital for monitoring we all went.  I had the pleasure of feeding and entertaining the three little boys in the cafeteria and lobby while Patrick and Jeanette headed up to labor and delivery.  They drew blood and monitored the baby and her blood pressure for what turned into hours.  Finally at around 6 pm they decided to admit her for a 24 hour urine collection.  She is about 35.5 weeks now, so we are anxious to see how they decide to proceed after this test.

We are finally home and settled, and needless to say, exhausted.  I had planned once again to upload some pictures today, I guess they will have to wait until tomorrow.

I've been there. It is more annoying than anything when you have to be there for pre-eclampsia, because they won't let you do ANYTHING, and if it is bad enough to effect your eyesight like mine did, you get pretty bored and lonely. Good thing she is so far along already though. I had to have my baby at 34 weeks because of my health. We got through that ok though.

I've dealt with preeclampsia with both of my pregnancies. I have learned a lot about it since doing my studies. While reading about it, I'm like, "Why didn't my dr. do that with me?"

A couple of things to try:
Have her increase her protein.
Also drinking dandelion tea. The leaf tastes better, but if it is that serious that she is in the hospital she should probably have the root tea. It detoxifies the liver. She can mix it with another tea like red raspberry to make it taste a little better.
