Joyful Chaos

First day of school

We made the leap today and started our new school year.  The plan is to start with math and language arts this week, and then add in the other subjects one at a time.  Most of our additional subjects are done co-op style with other families, so that factored into this decision.

The day started out okay.  The boys were out of bed and got dressed and fed without much fight.  The problems began when we started the timer for math.  We had so much dawdling and goofing off going on that not much was getting accomplished.  I made the decision to put my foot down before it continued into a problem and we did extra math today.  I made sure to discuss with them before lunch that the extra work came as a direct result of their behavior.  Cross your fingers that this lesson is easily learned and we don't have many repeats!  I already have my hands full this year between being pregnant and trying to keep Landon occupied during school time!

I say you had a good "first day" When I was teaching at a school, with my own class I often would hide my "fun" side with a more "serious" side until the children understood I meant buisness. Once I felt they knew what was expected I would let my "fun" side out. It usually would take a week or so and then year was pretty much smooth sailing, as far as discipline was concerned! Awesome Job MOM!

About Me

Welcome, glad you stopped by! Here you will get a glimpse into the day to day life of our family, as we happily homeschool in Delaware. We currently have 1 child who is married with a son of his own, two in college, and 4 more under 11 years old. Things are often hectic and a little bit crazy, but usually fun and maybe a bit interesting.
