August 2, 2006 - At the beach
Yesterday the kids and I went to the beach. We swam in the Gulf for the first time in our lives! It was quite an experience. The water was warm and there was a slight breeze which helped cool us down. We swam a little ways and then headed back to the beach to play in the sand. When we got to the shallow part we bumped into a school of fish! So we sat in the water and let the fish swim around us! It was so special. The kids of course tried to catch them, but they didn’t seem to worry about us. They just darted here and there as if they knew we could never catch them with our bare hands!
As the children began to dig in the wet sand, we unearthed tons of hermit crabs. It was the first time they has seen such small ones. My brother and I used to race them when we were kids :) But these were too shy and wouldn’t come out of their shells.
After digging holes, building sandcastles, getting sand in every nook and cranny and even collecting some pretty shells, we headed home to clean up. When we got home Beth wanted to know how shells were made, so we looked it up on World Book. It is truly amazing how God made all these things – land and sea creatures alike. We had a great time. It was educational and fun – just how we like Homeschooling to be!

I am dying to know how shells are made.... where's the link?
It doesn't take much to make a family memory does it. A swim.
