Jul. 15, 2007 - Trash Bandit!
At our house we sometime forget to take the trash to the road. Then by the second week the trash is overflowing. This was the case this week. I do not know why I can not remember to take the trash to the road. DH almost always remembers, but he to forgets on occasion. We live in rural area and burning is not a big deal, so Saturday we were going to burn the paper boxes that would not fit in the trash cans. EXCEPT….. The trash was gone! Friday when ds took the trash out there was no room. When dh came home in the wee hours of the morning Saturday he made a mental note to burn the boxes that would not fit after he had a little sleep. Saturday afternoon there was NO TRASH. It was all gone! Not only the trash cans we take to the road but an old can that was filled with stuff from cleaning out the shed and picking up the yard. That trash was not in a bag. The cans are still here and right where we normally keep them. The real kicker is: We were HOME when the trash bandit struck! While I am very happy the trash is gone it is a little scary to know someone was outside long enough to empty three trash cans and leave and I never knew it! Our children do not play outside by themselves but sometimes they do run in and out for me. I hate the fact I did not hear someone in the driveway. Now, I will think twice about having them take out the trash or run something to the truck. I realize some people will think I am being overly protective, but in our rural parish there are more than 70 registered s*x offenders (can not remember the exact number) and in my dh’s line of work he sees just how fast "bad stuff" can happen. On a positive note! Our new or soon to be new neighbor mowed the front our property on Saturday! DH has been working a lot and it has been raining cats and dogs here in SW LA, so the front section by the road was looking scraggly. Dh used the first opportunity he had to mow the area we use. Now, I suspected the neighbor was mowing around the road because I could hear him when we were in the pool. But alas, he was gone before I could thank him. DH still needs to mow around the trees and flowers but we are thankful for the mowing the neighbor did. This little tidbit leads me to believe he may have also came and picked up the trash, BUT it would have had to happen much earlier in the day! Okay, enough rambling…. I am supposed to be planning menus and a mega-cooking session. April

Jul. 16, 2007 - Just a thought.
Maybe you should let the kids play....Tell them they get 45min (or whatever time allows) To burn some energy. Let them go outside and be silly and crazy....but then tell them that when that time is up it is time to focus and listen. A few little "silly" breaks here and there may help to redirect. Give them a time to be silly and a time to calm down.
Just a suggestion......My children are still young, but I have found If I send them outside to run before trying to get them to sit, it is much easier.
Be encouraged, Just dig in and you can make it!
