April's Ramblings

Sep. 11, 2007 - Only Three Weeks to Go!!!!

I am a BAD blogger.  Sorry!  Life takes over and so does laziness.

YEAH!!!  Only three weeks to go until we have a little baby!  She finally has a name....Allyson!  No middle name yet, but I am okay with that.  I think she will most likely be called Ally most of the time.  When I told the oldest ds we were naming her Allyson he had a look of shock and disgust on his face!  To his credit he did not say a word.  When I ask him what was wrong he stated very mater-of-factly he HATED that name!  I never knew he was so opinionated.  So, I offered "Ally" and he was excited--thought that was a much nicer name than Allyson!  Males and they think females are hard to figure out!

The doctor and my husband both think it is wisest to induce, so more than likely we will be inducing.  That means less than three weeks.  I get a little nervous when I think about it.  I have a ton of stuff I "need" to do before she makes her appearance.  Truthfully, though the world will not end if my list is not completed!

Two things that were very important have been taken care of!  We named her and had a birthday party for two of the children.  Our current baby turned 2 on the 7th and ds (3rd child) will turn 5 Oct. 17.  Ds has been asking if it is turn to have a party since JUNE.  I was afraid if I waited until after the baby was born to have his party I would not be up to it.

We are going to try to have one big party next year instead of 5 parties!  We always invite the same people so why not!  I just do not know how to deal with the gift issue.  I refuse to ask families to bring 5 gifts--how crazy and expensive would that be!  But if I say no gifts so are still going to bring them and those who do not will feel bad.  Well, I have a year to figure it out.  If anyone has any ideas please pass them along.  I had thought about a family gift theme????

And to those who are worried about the children not having a special day of their own, please rest assured their actual will find them as the king or queen of the day!  They get to pick the meals and have a cupcake with a candle ect...

Must run--the two year old just shed her clothing!

Sep. 12, 2007 - Hi April!!!

I understand about the not feeling like you are ready for your baby! I certainly wasn't! I didn't expect to go into labor 4 weeks early either! I had planned on a homebirth and I had also planned on having my house in order before she came! LOL! It didn't happen! But interestingly enough, things have happened as of late that have shown me why my baby girl came early.

First off, she was definitely early, I am certain of that so I know my dates were not wrong. Secondly, if she had come on time, I wouldn't have a midwife, period. My regular midwife went to the midwest to deliver her daughter's baby who was due a week before me!!! We spoke shortly before my actual due date only to find out that her daughter still had not delivered!!! She was already a week past her due date ( just a couple days away from my original due date!). Another thing that happened was that my backup midwife had a tragedy happen in her family just 3 days before my due date and had I needed her she wouldn't be available (nor would I have wanted to trouble her with my delivery--she lost her 19-year-old son in a car accident).

I am truely amazed at how God worked everything out perfectly! It is truely majestic when you think about it! I had my midwife when I needed her, and things just seemed to fall perfectly into place. I know you may feel that you need to have everything ready, but do only what you can and don't stress about it! God will work everything out perfectly!

On a different note, birthdays are tough, especially when you have so many (we now have 7 birthdays to celebrate!!!) My suggestion to you IS to have them all at the same time, that is one big party! I would just tell the guests to do what they are able. If nothing else, give each child a card with money in it...even if it is just $5 (or a $1). I don't know a child that doesn't like to get money for their birthday!

OR you could have the guests "draw" names. If you have 5 families coming to the party, then they draw the name of one child and they get that child only a gift. Set a spending limit, and each child gets one gift! Maybe, the guests could even do the name exchange and then give the other children a card with a dollar in it. Then the children get a gift and money to spend how they like. I hope this helps!

We may be going to that method eventually...right now we only have one party a year due to the fact that that is the only birthday during the summer (and not during homeschooling). Trying to have a birthday party in the middle of the school year is just to overwhelming for me!!!

Anyway, this is LOOONNNGGG enough!

Blessings!
Heather
