April's Ramblings

May. 6, 2007 - Check Out This Post

We did not get to go to church today, but God always meets us where we are if we seek Him.  I AM NOT saying it is good to miss church as that would be contradicting the Word of God.

May. 6, 2007 - I Have Been Tagged!!!

Being new to blogging, I was surprised to be tagged.  Truthfully, I did not even know what it was!  Please excuse the delay--we have had a very busy week.

So here goes!  I was tagged by heatherslittlehearts (hope this makes a link--if not she is a homeschoolblogger) to tell seven things you may not know about me.

1.  I love to cook and bake, BUT I do not like the clean-up that goes along with it!  Filling the freezer, or baking for my family and friends, or taking meals to people who are sick/have a new baby simple makes my day!

2.  I love being pregnant!  I do not like the morning sickness and the tiredness of the first couple of months (did not have to deal with morning sickness the first three times around).  This time around after the first 11 weeks I have felt great.  Only problem was/is I am so far behind it is hard to regroup around the house and school.  The last time I was pg I felt yicky most for the most part, therefore I am grateful and enjoying this pg.

3.  I love to organize and set up new systems in my home.  Big problem I do not maintain those systems!!!  Certainly something I need to work on.

4.  I do not like doing the same thing everyday at the same time.  This could be one of the reasons I do not work the systems I put into place!  I do try to have meals at the same time and wash two loads of laundry everyday and do the basics of school with the children everyday.

5.  I have a love hate relationship with my husband's work schedule.  He works shift work.  He works 2 nights has 2 days off then works 3 days and has 2 days off then works 2 nights and has 3 days off ect...  But thrown in there is overtime that we normally do not know about in advance.  Planning family time is almost impossible, but it plays right into my not liking to do the somethings everyday.

6.  We school year round!  My poor children do not know most children get a summer break and school does not normally occur on Saturdays!  Due to dh schedule we take the day off if he will be around.  Do not feel to sorry for my children--they do not "do" school six days a week and they do not alway have  schoolwork on Saturday!

7.  I love being a wife and mother!  I am in awe of the opportunity God has granted me!

Well, there it is...  7 things you may have not known.  I will try to tag my seven later today, but it will most likely be in the morning!

Apr. 27, 2007 - Learning from Titus 2

The first time I read Titus 2 I was a young mother and wife.  I was struggling with the "why am I doing this" syndrome.  I can remember thinking "I can teach others to love thier husbands and children.  Who can not love thier husbands and children?"  Pride was a definite issue.

Several months down the road a sweet lady from church became my mentor.  When I told her of my desire to teach other women how to love their husbands and children and be keepers at home, she promptly informed me I needed to learn something before I could teach it!!!  Wow, that hurt!  We began a bible study and I began to grow.

I do not remember if it was during the bible study or while I was studying on my own, but one day I realized "love" according to God is not a feeling.  Yes, I know I am slow!  1 Corinthians 13 explains love.  Verse 4-7 says: "Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things."

Humbled.  I was astonished at how far off the mark I was.  I can not teach others how to love thier husband and children.  I fail often everyday.  In the process of learning about love I learned about my pride.

So, now I attempt to love my husband and children, but I rely on the grace of God.  I know I can not be the mother and wife HE designed me to be without HIM.  When I take my eyes off God I fail everytime.

May each of us turn to God for the strength and grace we need as wives, mothers and homeschoolers.

God Bless,

Apr. 19, 2007 - Staying Home

Sometimes life does not allow me to stay home.  Maybe someone is sick or dh needs me to run errands that can not wait or someone very special is having a party or there is an awesome fieldtrip.  During times of road running I come to love my time at home.  I recall all the reasons I try to stay home as much as possible!

This is not to say we are hermits.  We leave the house at least 3 times a week and more often 4 times.  I attempt to get all errands done on one day, then the other 3 days we only go to church, ballet, and chess.  Piano, errands, Awana and a playdate are squeezed into one day.  It makes for a very long day.  BUT then I do not have to think about what days I need to leave home--it is always the same.

Staying home gives me the time I need to accomplish my tasks  Cleaning, facilitating school, enjoying the children and being a wife.  Today I am home!!!  So far I have enjoyed the children as I watched them play, enjoyed time with dh outside by the fire with a lovely cup of coffee, fixed them a nice low-carb (dh prefers this) bf, started school, started a load of laundry, watched the dump truck deliver a load of rock (children loved this) and avoided cleaning!!!  Now cleaning has to be done, so off I go.

Have a blessed day!

Apr. 17, 2007 - One of the Many Joys of Homeschooling

On a bright sunny day this week my four year old runs up to me.  "Mama, Mama, I found a woodpecker!"  "How awesome, man!" (my response) "Mama, Mama, come on.  I want to show you!  Come on, Come on, Come on!!!!"  So out we went.  We never saw the woodpecker, BUT we could hear him pecking away.  DS turned to me and very seriously said, "Mama, that is what they do when they need to make a home."  Did he mention that that is how they find their food?  NO!  Do I care?  No, he is four; that knowledge will come later.

What makes me so very happy is he heard that woodpecker while he was playing. He knew what it was and he was in awe.  He loves nature.  He is my little boy who picks up all the bugs, frogs and worms.  He will be my one who leaves some animal in his pocket for me to find while doing laundry!  He has already worked really hard to put a lizard in his pocket, but that little lizard was to squirmy!

The two school-age children were in the mist of math when the woodpecker was discovered.  They were more than happy to postpone the lessons and  search out the woodpecker!  And they could do that!!!  They spent time studying the trees and making their brother feel very special and very important.  Then they returned to their math (albeit with prodding from Mama).

I thank God He has allowed me the priviledge of being a mother and homeschooling.

Apr. 10, 2007 - Things I Miss When Not Nursing a Little One!

At different times in my nursing years I have resented the time spent nursing.  Most of the time though, I loved it!  Yesterday, I turned the corner and saw Katherine sitting on my bed getting ready for her nap--it hit me.  Gone are the days that I am her sole comforter (now she can run to Daddy).  Gone are the days when the two of us "have to" cuddle up with a good book and relax (I mean nurse).  Gone are the days when without guilt I can sit in front of the computer( many times a day) while she nurses!

All the funny thoughts aside, nursing is such a wonderful time.  A time to treasure the moments together, because before I know it my little ones are running around and growing up.  One of my favorite moments nursing is when baby just looks up--staring, learning my face.  Or when they are so happy they have a hard time nursing because they are giggling.  God is so awesome to allow mothers the opportunity to nurse little ones.

Thankfully, God has chosen to bless our family with baby #5 this fall!

Mar. 26, 2007 - The Joy of Children

Do you sometimes pause and look at the children God has blessed you with?  Do you stop long enough to watch them play? Or sleep?  When I look at my little children I am overwhelmed with love for them.

What an awesome God we serve!!!  That he allows us the opportunity to parent is amazing and such a priviledge.

Yesterday, my little one (18months) cried most of the day.  Oh, sometimes she would go play, but shorty she would be screaming again.  No matter what I tried she screamed.  Mama wanted to scream or cry or run away!!!  Normally she is a very happy baby.

Last night as she was falling sleep God gave me the chance to just watch her.  How that renewed my heart.  As her little eyes were drifting closed, I smiled at her.  A little look of contentment settled on her face.  And I thanked God that she finds comfort in me also.

This soup is super easy and fast.  Be sure to use mild chiles if you have small children.  You can replace the chicken with turkey.   Enjoy.

1 (10 oz.) can chicken breast, drained (I use leftover ck or a cooked ck breast)

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup coarsely crumbled tortilla chips

In medium saucepan, bring broth, tomatoes and chilies to a boil.  Stir in corn; reduce heat, simmer 2 minutes.  Add chicken and simmer 1 minute until heated through.  Salt and pepper to taste.  Spoon into serving bowls with tortilla chips

Jan. 29, 2007 - Home Alone

Today my dear sweet husband has taken the children to see his father.  I am home ALONE!!!  Listen to the quiet. Can you hear it?

Truth be known I almost cried when they left, but dh quickly stated he could just leave the children home.  The tears quickly fled.

Last week was really rough and he promised me today.  Just hold on until Monday.  And I did, but by today I did not feel overwhelmed.  A day of worship and quiet is always refreshing!

I thank God for the opportunity and priviledge to worship Him, quiet times with my family, rest and time ALONE.
