Homeschool Memoirs:#9 Our Homeschool Family

THEME

This week’s theme is about your family. Don’t worry. I’m not going to make you write a long essay about all the great things your family does. Just something little diddy that I know everyone will have fun with!

Watch the youtube video below and then take this song and add your own words, about your family. The end of the first three lines should rhyme. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Okay I finally got this done, it sounds kind of stupid but, I did it anyway lol..This took alot of thought.

I also added the video because I have some readers that come to visit and thought it would be cute to have on my blog for them to listen to.

Lryics to “A Homeschool Family“

Some people say were strange
They think we lost our brains
Our neighbors think were looney
Our Homeschool Family

We drive a blue caravan
We learn about our Land
Our kids are in a band
Our homeschool family.

We learn about one another
And how to love our brother
Were encouraging each other
Our homeschool family.

(Thrifty)
(Nifty)
 (Gifty)

We give lots of love
and often lots of hugs
we like to show our love
A Homeschool Family

Our daughter is a scientist
she wants to be a biologist
she knows more then all of us
 A homeschol family.

We like to learn about nature
and all about our Creator
It just in our nature
A Homeschool Family

I am wearing...Jean Capri's and a black tank top with my hair wrapped in a towel (lol)

I am reading...I am still reading ("Having a Mary Spirit)

I am hoping...to do some scrapbooking and putting some more cards together.

I am creating...a new baby afghan.

I am hearing...Our Cockateils chirping

Around the house...a lot of things, baking cookies, taking laundry to the laundry mat, catching up on school work, cleaning house and cleaning my couches, emails and the list goes on..

One of my favorite things...holding and hugging babies

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week... For Today...

Grocery shopping, planning school for the rest of the week, grading papers and a field trip to a local farm.

BFS~Assignment #103 It keeps going, and going, and going...(Energizer)

Memory Verse: 1 Timothy 4:15 (NIV)

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.
Please try to learn our memory verse this week. We will be sharing a new verse every week and hope that you will store them in your hearts and find a special joy in His words.
Intro: It keeps going, and going, and going…. (Marketing credit: Energizer)

Housekeeping: that household mess, it keeps going and going and going. It’s a perpetual chore that we diligently need to keep going on to stay on top it. We all have different ways of keeping ourselves energized.

Assignment:
How do you keep energized so you can get it all done? bouncy music? treat it like a workout? Do you use a schedule?, a housekeeping binder system? luck of the draw system?.. or is this an area where you need encouragement? Do you need God’s help to keep order and beauty in your dwelling place? Take this week to tell us how You diligently keep going with your housekeeping chores.

my only answer to this is that the Lord gives me the strength to get things done...although I do have days where I don't do well in this area..one of my favorite things to do is listening to Christian Music while I am cleaning the house-I also have my children assigned certain chores they are supposed to do daily.
Lindsey~Vacuums and Unloads the dishwasher
Courtney~Cleans the downstairs bathroom and catbox, feeds the puppies in the evening.
Whitney~Feeds the puppies in the morning, cleans her room
Zachary~Feeds the older dog morning and night and cleans his room
One of the things that I struggle with is with the sock problem-so i throw them in a bucket (sock bucket)lol..I need to do better in that area putting them together.
I am very blessed to have a husband that also helps me around the house.

Picture ideas: Show us some before and after pictures of a space you’ve been working on /show us your favourite tools / share a youtube of your favourite housekeeping music that keeps you energized.....

Share one of your favorite verses..
Psalm 18:1-3
I Will love thee, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation; and my
high tower.
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

BFS~Assignment #102~Try it, You'll like it!

Memory Verse: Psalms 26:2 NIV
Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind.

Assignment: This week I want you to do something for someone else. Do you have a neighbor that needs you? Do you know an elderly person or single mom that could use you? What about the homeless? Pack even one single sack lunch and give it to someone in need. Do you know someone in blogland that is struggling right now and could use a note from you about how much you care? Pray about this. Let God put on your heart the perfect thing for you to do for another. Now, here is the kicker…I DO NOT want you to post about what you do. Whatever you choose to do is between you and God. Our rewards are in heaven, not here on earth, Mathew 6:1. I want you to post about how doing this “act” made you feel. Was stepping out of your comfort zone in this area as hard as you thought it might be? Could you see the gratefulness in their eyes? Hear it in their voice? Tell it from their typing? Do you think you might make doing things like this a more regular part of your time?  If this is an area that you are already active in, tell us how you feel this has impacted your life.

My husband and I have always loved "helping others" It is very rewarding to help people in their time of need. Recently I put together a gift for a friend who was going through a difficult time and got in contact with this gal who was in charge of this ministry called "AngelfoodMinistries" I don't know if any of you have heard of this wonderful Ministry but, it is awesome. Anyway the gal that I was working with was really surprised at how I wanted to help a friend in need and said this is the way that Christ wants us to be~is helping one another out in time of crisis. When you see your friends go through things and when you see how others struggle, it makes you take a deep look at your own situation that you thought was really bad but, then you realize your situation isn't as bad as you see what others struggle with and even if your situation looks bleek God will reward you for all the things that you try and do and how you try and help others-it doesn't matter if it is just a little thing or a big thing..he looks at our hearts and thats what really matters.

A verse I am sharing today is..."My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up." Psalm 5:3

Got through the Test

Hi Everyone,
Just updating on my test I had today, I got through it PTL...I was hoping they would of put me completely out of it, but no such luck! They gave me a muscle relaxer plus a sedative , at first I fell asleep then woke up and saw what they were doing on the screen, it was a little painful so they gave me some more meds, they did find one pullop and sent it in to be biopsied. I will know more on that next week. I got really sick yesterday with the prep work-it kind of scarred me because I got like a cold clamyness it was strange. According to my doctor I have to do it every 3 years because of my family history with colon cancer..They said now with the new research they start at age 25 with those with the history~I am sure my kids will not be happy with that lol.
Thanks Everyone who prayed for me.

Homeschool Memoirs: #4 Something New

Planning your homeschool is a lot of fun, especially if you’re going to be trying something new. Just like finding a shiny new penny you’re excited to use it. Mother Dear has been planning some new curriculum for us, and I am plenty excited to get started on it. This week I hope you’ll share something new you’re using, why you’ve decided to use it, and if you have used it how you like it. Make sure to include the publishing information and where you got it from so others can look into if they like.

Well, we were going to use K12 but it just doesn't work with our family so, we went back to the curriculum we have used before and it always works for us. We use School of Tomorrow and I am trying to also use lapbooking along with this as well as Teach Music and Art and add some Science Experiments to our Schooling. We also started doing Nature Walks each week. I am also looking into Lighthouse Christian Academy which they use the paces but, keep your childrens records. For more information on that I have included the link.

Sept 10~2008 BFS #101 Plop, plop, Fizz, fizz, Oh What a Relief It Is!

Memory Verse:  Psalms 55:22 - Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

IntroPlop, plop, Fizz, fizz; Oh, What a Relief It Is! (Marketing Credit: Alka Seltzer)

Assignment: This would be a good week to tell about your worst struggles with a lifestyle of homeschooling.  Tell about something you’ve struggled with and how God’s mercies gave us the strength to get past it.  Also, share any curriculum/homeschool methods that have been a relief to you, i.e., a particular Teacher’s Manual or Homeschooling method that’s been easier for your family.  Talk about how you felt when the burden was lifted and Oh, What a Relief it is! Well, I have really struggled with trying to make a goal at it with using K12 Virtual Academy, I really didn't want to write about it because at a point I felt like a failure but, as a friend of mine said you are only a failure if you didn't try..I have tried this twice and just figured it is something that just doesn't work for our family. I have used school of tomorrow for years but, thought I would try it again (K12)and it just isn't for us..I have to tell you I have learned that its ok and have learned what works with my kids and what doesn't that has been a struggle for me. I feel very relieved, less stressed and more at Peace.
The verse I continue to stand on at this time is Isaiah 26:3 ~You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You. Because he trusts in You.
We are also adding Music, Typing Lessons and ART and SCIENCE Experiements to our School Work.
Also a new thing we are doing this year is taking Nature Walks.

I don't have a picture at this time but, will add one later.

Pizza Night

This summer I found this pizza recipe and it is really good! The pizza dough is actually a Weight Watchers Recipe and it is 3 pts per slice, depending on what you are putting on it. I use Ragu Pizza Sauce, Cheese and Pepperoni slices. The kids always like helping me when I make this so I thought I would make a slide show of them doing that and share it here.
It was funny because Whitney thought she wanted to help kneed the dough until she got her hands into it and didn't like the feel of it, my husband told her it was like her going out and making mud pies (I laughed)and know that the Pizza tastes alot better then I think mud pies would taste lol.
You can click here for the Pizza Recipe :)

An Awesome Encouraging Word

My husband Wayne received an encouraging word this week that was so awesome. He had recently been laid off from work, this has been going on all summer-He has been feeling really down and he had gone to pick up some wood at a place nearby and he had come home and said he needed to talk to me and to come in our room, I was joking with him and I said is it good , bad or ugly and he replied it is awesome something that the Lord did, anyway he was at this company picking up some wood for the winter and this man comes out and starts talkig with him and they are just chatting about their families, things our older girls have done and then the man said that the Lord wanted him to know that he knows there are two things he has been praying for , he told him that God wanted him to continuing to have faith and that God was about to open a door that he has spoken and promised. That there would be an out pouring of finances and to not worry about his family, and that God is going to take care of us.
Wayne said what that man spoke was very encouraging and very humbling.
He didn't know this man and this man didn't know him.
I thought that was so neat since Wayne has been so discouraged and at the right time, the Lord sent him an encouraging word.
I had him write down what was spoken over him, so that when the Lord does open those doors we can look back.

My verse for today is Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord, with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths.♠

BFS ~Assignment #100

Oh what a feeling!

Assignment: Take time this week to write about YOU and your feelings of trials and triumphs with homeschooling. Touch on when you first heard about the concept of home schooling and whether you tip-toed into the idea or just jumped in and never looked back. Share your schooling as a child and how you compare it to what your goals are for your children.

This week I have thought alot about the trials and the triumphs that I have gone through since the beginning of starting to homeschool my children, my oldest Lindsey who now is 18, was 5 years old when we began, I wasn't to thrilled with my husband because she was in Kindergarten and we were moving to another city and he wanted us to homeschool her (I emphasize on the word US (strongly) LOL
Although I do have to give my husband credit now, he does help teach the children and that is a big blessing to me.

I remember when we first started out-I would say my biggest thing at that time was where do I start-I really wasn't sure about it, I was on my own and had no one around me that I knew of that homeschooled, I don't even think I owned a computer at that time lol.. I wanted her to go to public school but, now I wouldn't change that for anything..even though I struggle more some days, I wouldn't change having my children home for a second, I love every minute I have with them-there have been plenty of struggles, like which Curriculum to use,the constant struggle of getting them motivated and sometimes I had to deal with my older two not getting along alot..but through the Lord, we got through it.

Lindsey and Courtney our older two now attend a Christian School but, I home school our younger two. I have learned alot,I have learned to organize and handle things and what works for us and what doesn't.

As a child in a public school myself it was a struggle everyday, kids being mean to me, I remember when I was in high school how the "Popular" kids would stand on this ramp and be mean to all the other kids, one year I was in a car wreck and I hurt my leg and it was in a cast and on crutches, I remember walking down that ramp and a girl sticking her foot out and trip me, that is what I want my kids to not have to experience, although they will at some point in the world have to deal with people, I don't want them to have something constant everyday as that to deal with.

My goals for my children are to have a safe & Healthy enviroment, a place where it is fun to learn and learn about God's love for each other..and his grace that we can have with one another.

A verse that I was given this summer during a health scare-is Isaiah 26.3 says-Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Here are some Pictures I am sharing :)

Whitney checking out the new microscope and then her brother Zachary
checking it out.
