Election Prayer for our Country & Leaders

With the coming election, many of us are seeking answers for the choices we need to make. What a time to spend with God in prayer asking for his wisdom in these matters! My Bible study group met today and discussed some passages that reminded me that the LORD is in control of all things. No matter who is elected next week, God's will is going to come through - He can use anyone to bring about His plan for His people! These passages brought comfort to me today as I hope they will to you also.

God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer. Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!     Psalm66:19-20

May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth.   Psalm 67:3-4

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Praise be to the name of God forever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them.   Daniel 2:21

Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience.      Romans 13:1

He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations - let not the rebelious rise up against him.  Psalm 66:7

You answer us with awesome deeds of righteouness, O God our Savior, the hope of all the ends of the earth and of the farthest seas, who formed the mountains by your power, having armed yourself with strength, who stilled the roaring of the seas, the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the nations. Those living far away fear your wonders; where morning dawns and evening fades you call forth songs of joy.     Psalm 65:5-8

Yes, we must pray without ceasing...we are in a deep Spiritual Battle over the heart and soul of this nation, but I trust that the LORD will hear and remember us if we humble ourselves, confess our sins and the sins of our nation like Daniel did, and do all in our power to elect righteous leaders.

Take care and keep praying!

Nov. 8, 2008 - President Elect

I really like your website, even though my husband and I did not vote for President Elect Obama, when the news announced that he had won the election, we stopped, joined hands and prayed for him on the spot. We must remember, "Our ways are not God's ways". He sees the whole picture, and if we keep our eyes on him, he will lead us in paths of rightousness no matter what path our country is on. God is still in control.
