The teacher finally fitted us into her schedule on Tuesday this week (December 4th). Although she phoned to say that she was coming, neither myself nor the children could summon much energy or enthusiasm for the visit. I had prepared a cake the night before and we had a gift wrapped and under the tree for her. We had a nice friendly visit and she was delighted with the work the girls showed her. But, like my eldest daughter commented after the teacher left, there didn't seem to be much point in it all since she had already filed our report card marks. I had to agree.
Nevertheless, we're finished for the term. The girls continue to plod through their Math, Spelling and Vocabulary, and Spanish programs as letting them slide would mean ending late in June. So were keeping a less hurried pace, not introducing any big projects before we break on the 14th. I'm more than ready for a change of pace.
I have already been taking the children out, one-at-a-time, to Christmas shop for one another. This is the first year we've tried this approach - a Christmas more about GIVING than GETTING. The kids are discovering that they really enjoy planning surprises for others. We have also focussed on giving to Youth Leaders and relevant people in the childrens' lives as a way of showing our appreciation for the effort and energy they expend on their behalf. I am feeling less stressed about this Christmas and pleased that God continues to speak wisdom into my walk and relationships with others. Blessings! |
