A couple of weeks ago I posted our morning schedule here. I'll continue with our afternoon schedule. I have recently added in 1/2 hour of extra chore time since I'm adding chores from using Managers Of Their Chores by Terri Maxwell, which will take us up until about 11:00 or a little after with the morning schedule.
11:00 Read books to the kids and have kids the kids get lunch ready. (sandwiches already made from the morning routine and fruit and water)
11:30 Lunch - sometimes during lunch we do a few schooling things such as: Spanish - I used to teach Spanish so sometimes I speak to them in Spanish during lunch and teach them a little, music - sometimes I'll read a biography during lunch about a musician and play some of his music, art appreciation - show artwork and discuss it and/or teach about artists during this time. Without using lunchtime, it can be hard to consistently do any Spanish, music, or art!
12:00 Clean up from lunch
12:30 (or earlier if clean up is done earlier) If the weather is nice, the kids go outside for a little free time until nap time. If the weather isn't good (or we're lazy about getting out in the winter weather) we alternate activites. Mondays we usually have luandry to fold, Tuesdays I hope to do music with musical instruments, Wednesdays we have a table time with art projects or puzzles, Thursdays I'd like to do more of a simple exercise or P.E. activity (toss a ball or shoot sock balls into containers or something), Friday - either more Spanish or table time again. I haven't been consistent with following this schedule yet as I just remade this schedule a bit ago.
1:00 or a little later we start getting ready for nap time
1:30 younger 4 down for naps. Older 2 have either book basket time (browse books) or computer time (doing educational math program or typing program or paint program or making cards on a card program - I don't like many entertainment-oriented programs). During the next hour I have some free time to make phone calls, check e-mail on our good computer, or other misc. things that need to get done. I also hope to be more regular about taking a few minutes at this time to refocus on the Lord with either a quick Bible verse or a few minutes of prayer time.
2:30 Early prep for supper. Do whatever can be done ahead of time to have supper ready. I usually have the older 2 kids help me during this time and often have them help make muffins or other item.
3:00 Read school-oriented books or chapter books to the 2 older kids.
3:30 Get everyone up for naps and read books and have a snack. (dad does this now that we have our business and he's home!)
4:00 Chore time for the kids - get the table set, help with supper etc. I'd like to have the table set early at this time as it's always so hard to get the last-minute supper table-setting done right when everyone is hungry and about to eat. Once this work is done, they can be free to go outside if the weather is nice. I will have one supper helper who stays with me and will have them rotate who that is - each taking a week to be the helper.
4:30 The kids who aren't supper helpers are either outside playing or on partner time inside rotating who they play with and often rotating different toys to play with.
5:00 SUPPER!
OK - I'll stop there for now and do the rest another time!
