Do you ever have days where so many things keep happening that by the end of the day it's all you can do to stay cheerful and not become discouraged? Sometimes by the end of the day I feel weary of dealing with all the daily little issues that by themselves aren't a big deal, but compounded can become like a mountain of struggles. It doesn't help that the last thing that happens before the day with the kids is done is getting them to settle down and go to sleep!
If there was ever a time that required more patience, I can't think of one! My 2yo is the toughest to get to settle down and go to sleep. He's the one who when he was 1 could think of about any excuse to get us to come back in his room! Here are his most creative excuses given:
Needing us to get him his blankie that he threw out of his bed
Needing us to get him his duckie that he threw out of his bed
Needing us to help him get his bodily parts "unstuck" from the crib slats (he would try to get his foot stuck in his crib to get us to come back
Needing us to change his diaper (he would try to do #2 so we would have to come in)
Needing us to remake his bed after completely stripping it of everything and launching it over the side
Those are just a few of the more interesting things he's done. I didn't even indulge him in these requests and was fairly consistent with handling these events, but he's very persistent in trying!
His most funny comment when trying to call us back came as a result of his hearing his sister (who is in the room with him) complain about his being too loud to us. So one night he starts calling, "Mommmmy, Mommmmy, J's (his name) being too Wowd (loud), J's being too wowd!" He was tattling on himself for being too loud, so I told him, "tell J (himself) to be quiet then"!
Last night he called and wanted to say something to me but he's in that stage where sometimes it's hard to get his words out so he says "um" until he can get the right words out. I decided to count the # of times he said "um" as I could see it was going to be quite a few. He made it to 137 "ums" before he finally gave up and never said what he was going to say!
So that's what I'm talking about when I see my need for patience! At least I got to see some humor in it last night despite the impatience of just wanting him to go to sleep! So now at this moment I think they're finally all settled down, so peace reigns in the house.
Anyways, I need to quote and requote, "Let us not become weary in doing good for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up!"(Galatians 6:9), and pray for that patience that the Lord promises us through his Spirit!
It is tough with so many little ones, I know! We have six 9 and under and #7 is expected to arrive in September. I don't know how many times our children come down the stairs complaining of so & so being too loud, or they need a drink, or they need to go to the bathroom, or they can't find their baby or blanket...and the list goes on!
School for us can sometimes be a struggle, too. While I am trying to teach math or English or phonics...my girls decide its time to have a rivalry or scream...or help themselves to food in the kitchen.
My youngest (21 mo.) just discovered that if she put a box that she could stand on in the bathroom next to the sink that she could play in the water!!! So cute, and so smart!
"Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward." Psalms 127:3
Children are such a blessing!
They grow up too soon!
Blessings!

Hi! I recently found your blog. We use MFW too. I have three children and we are using 1st grade this year. I enjoyed reading about how your schooling is going with more children and using MFW too and that I'm not the only one with days of frustration. Hang in there! I so loved your idea to pray for each of your children by their bed individually.
