I read 1 Thessalonians 1:5 and want that to be my prayer for my days as I relate to my family. It says, "For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake." I used to think that this verse was primarily an evangelistic verse but when I read it the other day, I realized that it's a great verse for daily living in my home with my children.
I'm trying to teach them the gospel and teach them right living. I pray that my teaching and training will come to them not just in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and much assurance. It also says, "as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake." What kind of person am I among my children? May I endeavor to live my life as a godly example for my children. May my words be spoken in the holy spirit's power and not just be mere words. Only through God can change happen in myself and my family. May God show his power in and through us as we rest in him.
