We had a fish, a brim that we caught in a lake, that we worked so hard to save. It started floating upside down. It would eat worms out of our hands. We would take turns holding it when it would tire itself out trying to right itself. After an agonizing week, it finally died.
We gathered the kids together and went through spill how everything must die, yada, yada, yada. The children bowed their heads and the 5 year old said, "we are sure going to miss Pond Fish." "Yeah," agreed the 7 year old, "and we will remember all the fun times we had."
My husband and I are looking at each other trying not to cry.
Then, with the most upbeat and happy tone came, "Can we go get a catfish now?"
