Home Spun strip #223
Posted in Home Spun comic part 12

I've spoken before of the news that New York will be ending its special services for homeschoolers. The New York Times published an article about the issue on April 20. This is an issue that should be of great concern to homeschoolers in my state, whether or not they receive special services. The following quote is particularly troubling to me:
"Now the state is urging school districts to offer students the opportunity to enroll in their local public schools, where services would be continued."
This continues to sound like blackmail to me. Enroll your children in school, or we won't provide services. And if you decide to continue homeschooling, be prepared to tell us how you are going to accommodate your child's special needs. Private school students will continue to receive special education services. Only homeschoolers are affected by this decision. The NY Times article failed to mention this.
Here is a link to the memo on the NYS Education Department website. The NY Home Educator's Network (NYHEN) also has information on this topic under Legislative Issues.

When something like this happens, we loose much more than just our friends. We also loose another great family to a socialist system of education.
Many people cannot understand why our society is so tolerant of socialism and deviant behavior...it is crammed down their throats from day one at the public schools. So it isn't a big jump to accept socialism, when it's what you have been taught.
Soon, we will accept what I call "mafia-like behavior" from everyone, because we keep getting it from the public schools.
It's the equivalent of the government coming and telling you that because you live in this neighborhood, you must drive a Ford Taurus, and your neighbor 2 blocks over, must drive a Toyota Camry, you have the option of purchasing another car, but in order to do so, you must pay for the other car first, before you can buy the car you want. That is what public school is like. No choice, unless you pay for two systems. It is extortion. I could ramble on this for years...but I won't.
You are right though...it is blackmail and forced coercion. It is socialism in full force.
