Ok! I've got some more strips, but I'm going to pace myself posting them so I have time to draw new ones. How do daily strip writers do it? Oh yes, they aren't homeschooling! |

I'm running out of strips!!! Please excuse a short break as I need to scan a new batch onto the computer and ink in more comics. Don't worry, I have no lack of ideas at the moment, and I'm considering adding the third child at some point, at least before my youngest starts reading the strip and realizes there are only two kids. |

Here's a question: What's your favorite cartoon, past or present? I remember as a kid, the three of us always fought to be the first to see the comics page in the paper. Over the years, comics have been a source of comfort for me, a source of inspiration, and they probably improved my reading, writing and vocabulary as much as any teacher. I love reading the comics first thing in the morning and sharing the funny ones with my kids. My oldest reads and discusses the deeper ones with me, as well as the editorial cartoons. My favorite: For Better or For Worse. Lynn Johnston was one of the first women cartoonists with a syndicated strip, her characters age, and she doesn't shy away from the hard topics like death. She was part of my inspiration for Home Spun and I would love to meet her and show her my comic. (Rose is Rose is my second favorite, I love Pasquale's guardian angel.) So leave a comment and let me know, what's your favorite cartoon strip? |

Episode 3. I have 3 more scanned but I'm going to put them up slowly, that way I'll have time to ink in more strips and maybe you'll all keep visiting to see if I put up a new one!

I started this cartoon one child ago, l left it for a while, and now I make a new strip whenever the spirit moves me (it has to push hard sometimes-- sleep deprivation from the youngest, you know). Anyway, it used to be called "The Home Front" but when I surfed a comic strip site I saw that the name was already taken. So here it is, in its debut to the cyberverse, as "Home Spun," named for my children's storytelling group. Please go easy on me, these (loosely) reflect my own familial observations and reminiscences, not the homeschool community as a whole. |
