I was so bushed last night that I slept in until 9am today! I woke to the smell of coffee early ...
Mom made chocolate scones with the boys ... boy were they yummy! I had a marketing meeting with TOS peoples and got some work done.
Then we really started the day! I went through a bunch of stuff in our dining room...we wanted to move the TV cabinet and the sectional in the dining area and move some other things out in the living room. I know that sounds weird -- but when I post the pictures you'll understand why. It was a busy day of dusting (which I haven't done in probably over a year!) and moving furniture around.
We moved the dining table and brought the chairs up from the basement. The hutch was moved. We even ate dinner at the dining table tonight! We put a rug (stored since we moved) under the table -- it looks awesome! We completed the look with a vase of flowers that Daniel and the boys brought us from the grocery store on Saturday.
We moved the sectional and the TV cabinet and all the TV stuff. I have our stereo hooked up to it for surround sound...and of course all the cables and such for the DVD and VCR players. We moved the shelf of movies and DVDs too...wow...we have a lot of movies. But, we also don't have cable.
Mom cooked baked chicken, new potatoes, green beans and macaroni and cheese. Boy, it sure is nice to have Mom cooking. I hate to cook. I told her if she'd move here and cook for me we'd build her a wing. She has yet to take me up on that.
The boys spent most of the day outside playing with the neighbor kids. There were a few scuffles that had to be dealt with, but overall they did great! The kids even helped us haul some things up and down the stairs.
Tomorrow we will work on the family room since we moved the TV cabinet and media shelves.
I forgot to mention all the little things that Mom has fixed that I've procrastinated on. She's done the following:
1. Glued a freezer rack back together.
2. Fixed and glued a door that had fallen apart on an antique wardrobe.
3. Fixed the screen door on the front door.
4. Got the boys to paint a nightstand.
5. Sprayed the back sliding screen door with WD-40 -- works like a charm now!
6. Got daughter motivated to clean out a nightstand and a chest in her room.
7. Cleaned out a corner of my kitchen counter.
It's been another great day of accomplishment... and we've only been at it for two days! What will we be able to get done in the 5 1/2 weeks we have left?!?
Hey...I also filled up two bags for Goodwill! Woo hoo!
As I'm writing this, we just heard some raccoons fighting up in the trees. If you've been following my blog, you know I don't have much patience for any more raccoons...they better kill each other in this fight.. haha!
Stay tuned for more updates from the "Extreme Clean: HomeSchool Edition"...
Alex will be taking pictures tomorrow!

Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - Extreme Clean: HomeSchool Edition Part 2
Well Monday morning came and we were ready to get to work. First on the list -- our bathroom which has been unusable for about 9mos or more! We had a huge toilet leak, had to remove the toilet and install a new sub floor. Well the subfloor got replaced by my husband about a month ago and the peel and stick tile was my job.
Mom made us pancakes for breakfast -- wow -- my kids never get that in the morning!
While Mom cleaned out my refrigerator (Bless her Heart!!!) I was busy on my knees peeling and sticking and cutting tile pieces for the floor. It looks great! I then put in the caulk stuff between the floor and the tub. Then we decided to paint....why not? I already had the paint and it needed an update. Both of us got it done in a couple of hours, trim and all! We even painted the base of the sink...unfortunately you can't do much with a turqoise sink..but that's for another day and more dollars we don't have to spend! So now all that has to be done is to install a new toilet and for my hubby to put the drain back together in the tub (which was also broke but my manly hubby fixed it).
We ended the day with BLT's, corn and brussel sprouts for dinner thanks to Mom and hubby Daniel! Yum, Yum!
I felt a tremendous sense of accomplishment after doing that floor in the bathroom. And the paint just made a HUGE difference! I just don't do white walls...
So...what will we attempt tomorrow?
Hopefully I'll have pics soon!
Stay tuned....

Tuesday, June 6, 2006 - Extreme Clean: HomeSchool Edition Part 1
Well, my daughter was at a sleepover and has the only working digital camera...so no pictures yet...but I promise there will be!
My Mom arrived safe and sound Friday afternoon. My youngest son and I picked her up and then had a nice dinner together at Denny's
Saturday morning found us going to garage sales...what else? You can't get us together and NOT go to them on a Saturday morning!?! Mom found some good deals on clothes, and I found a couple pairs of capris and some things for the kids. Saturday afternoon we went to the Kane County Flea Market (www.kanecountyfleamarket.com) touted the "best in the midwest". I think we spent more on lemonade, funnel cake, and kettle corn that we did on anything else! It was really fun to look around and get some decorating ideas. I love antiques!! I did buy Phantom of the Opera on DVD for my daughter for only $4...that was a deal! We spent four hours there!
On the way home, we saw a guy standing in the median holding a sign that said FREE something....well you know me....I was curious what was free. The closer we got I noticed it said FREE FOOD and then something underneath. So I slowed down and finally saw that it said Buffalo West Wings. This was a new restaurant that hadn't opened yet. So Mom and I thought...we'll go see what this is about. Well, sure enough, we went to the door and lo and behold they were giving away free food. And I'm not just talking samples...I'm talking THE WHOLE MEAL! They were set to open in a couple of days and they figured this was the best way to market..get people eating it and they'll start talking. So we got our drinks, an appetizer and two entrees TOTALLY FREE! That was way cool!
We were very tired when we got home and I needed to get some rest because I had to sing at church the next morning....
Sunday morning found me getting up at 5:30 a.m. -- which if you know me real well is like 4 hours before I prefer to awake. I was on the vocal team for worship that Sunday and we have to be there at 7am to practice. All three of the boys wanted to go with me so we all left the house at 6:30!
Church went well...our new student ministries director spoke on prayer ... he was a really good speaker. We then stayed for the 6th grade BBQ with our 2nd son who is entering the middle school ministry. It was fun to have a meal with other families and introduce my southern Mom to friends! Then we all came home and took naps! Ahhhhh...Sunday afternoon naps...they're the BEST! Then it was off to church again for the 9th grade BBQ -- our oldest daughter is entering (gasp!) the high school years! A day of church, fellowship, naps and BBQ's -- what more could you ask for?
Obviously, we've done nothing towards the "Extreme Clean: Homeschool Edition" but....just wait, there's more...
