Have you changed your filter?

Posted in His voice

What is the purpose of filters? This was the question asked at Bible study last night. Well....filters do exactly that, they filter out the unwanted. In the case of an air filter, it filters out the things you don't want your family breathing. A coffee filter filters out the grounds so you can enjoy your coffee without the bitter taste. What would happen if you didn't change your filter all week?

In life when certain things happen to us we put filters in place. For example, maybe we were hurt by a spouse or someone we are close to, we put up a filter....which is necessary at that moment, but what happens if even after the filter is no longer needed? We continue to filter things that happen to us through the same filter.

We might not trust so an so (whomever it may be) all because this other person  hurt us many years ago. Then we are filtering what's going on now through past experiences.

We may even filter the voice of God through past beliefs or religious ideas. Like Peter in Acts when he was hungry and fell in the trance and the Lord showed him certain meats(that he previously belived were unclean) and told him to kill and eat. At first he told God no, not so, these meats are unclean! He was filtering the voice of God through his religious way of thinking. God had to show it to Peter three times before he finally removed the filter that he was using. It's a good thing he did too, because Peter would be used to minister to the Gentiles. God told him,"Don't call unclean what I have called clean". God was really talking about an even more important issue than food.

So even though some filters are good for us for a time and protect us,

there comes a time when we need to check our filter to see if it needs to be changed out. Although Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever, God wants to do a new thing in our lives.

A Great Geography Activity!

Posted in school issues

Now before I even begin I cannot take any credit for this. I can't remember the site I got this off of, because I didn't bookmark it. I actually tried to find it again, but to no avail.

Here it is: You buy a beach ball at the dollar store and the put the name of the States and their capitals with a permanent marker, then you toss the ball to each other and wherever your left hand lands you say aloud the name of the State and capital. When everyone has become familiar with them you just say the state name and someone else says the corresponding capital.

Doesn't that sound like FUN!!!

We are also going to do our numbers and letters for my 5yr. old, since he can't read yet.

Coming in for the finish!

Wow! This school year is almost over! I still have one in public school and I am soooo glad it's coming to an end. He will be homeschooled for 2006-2007. I think things will actually run smoother with him home, not as many distractions. There is one thing I am very much looking foward to and it's sleeping in the first Monday of no school!

I think we will "do school" lightly through the summer. We are using Math-u-see, so we will probably continue it and we are going to do some bird watching. I am sure we will do loads of fun reading. We will also continue with our Bible readings. I am excited about time with my boys!

Blessings!

We did the Sixflags over Georgia thing yesterday and....I am sore! We did have a great time though. There was a HUGE crowd. It was such an encouragment to see that many homeschoolers in this area! We didn't get to ride all the rides "I" wanted to ride, but we had good family time making lots of memories. We will do it again next year!

The Lord's Day!

Good morning!

Well.....today is Sunday! What a woderful day this is going to be! I went to worship/prayer at a minister/friend's house. It was so good to get away and just soak in the peresence of the Lord! How refreshing!

Well the minister beagan to sing the song: Come Lord Jesus Come. It starts out: "To all who are thirsty, all who are weak. Come to the fountain, dip your heart in the stream of life. Let the pain and the sorrow be washed away...in the waves of HIs mercy, as deep cries out to deep.......

The Lord spoke to me in that still small voice and I realized (or got the revelation that) He calls the thirsty, not the full...He calls the weak, not the strong to come to the fountain. Wow! There has been so many times that I avoided that fountain because I was weak or I was empty and had neglected to drink from Him. I knew that He was calling me into His presence!

I believe He is also calling you to dip your heart in the stream of life............

Well.......

Posted in school issues

It is the week-END! I am so glad! We had a very busy week. Now I can take the weekend to re-group/re-gather/re-coup! I have decided for summer we are going to do a bird unit. I havn't worked out the details, but it should be interesting....considering I'm not real creative, so if any of you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate them! I want it to be fun, fun! I have ordered a Peterson field guide. We should get it in the next week or so.

I really need ideas!

Thanks in advance!

Blessings,

Julie:)

Finding God a place of rest

Psalm 132-

Lord, remember David, and all his afflictions; How he swore to the Lord; and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob; Surely I will not go into the chamber of my house, or go up to the comfort of my bed: I will not give sleep to my eyelids, until I find aplace for the Lord, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.

As David vowed not to rest until he found the Lord a place to dwell, to abide, so we should also be active in this seek and search mission. The Great God Jehovah dsires to live in His people. We are His resting place! Wow!

It is the great commission given by Jesus, to go into all the world and preach the gospel...... What is the "good news"? Well, ther are many different facets and aspects, but the most awesome is that God wants to live in people. He doesn't just want to be with you! Now, that is good news!

The psalmist also said, "Bless the Lord, Omy soul....". What possible way could we bless Him? God increases and is blessed when men surrender to Him. Jesus came to this world to seek and to save. God is not selfishly desiring a resting place. His love for us is beyond comprehension. No, when He moves in the home he begins the process of transforming it from a "house", to a palace fit for THE KING!

Are we willing to say with David, until i find a place for the Lord, I will not give sleep to my eyes?

Prayer, " Lord, i thank you for your kindness, for your favor and how you have chosen to, not just live with your people as you did in the Old testament, but IN them. Impart your heart's desire to us. Let us hear your heart today and remove our self-seeking desires. For you said, " Seek first your kingdom and righteousness and all these things would be added to us.

Bless the Lord Oh my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name!"

In Jesus name!

Hello, I am homeschooling my 3 precious sons, who are growing up right before my very eyes! I praise the Lord for the opportunity to have my boys at home with me. What an awesome blessing!!!
