End of the year!!!

Posted in school issues

Well, here we are finished with another year @ home! I had a wonderful time this year, but I am so glad to have a little break before we start up again. I have decided to go Charlotte Mason all the way. I have been visiting the ambleside online site and have made and printed the book lists and schedules. It looks like it will be a great year. For those of you familiar with the Charlotte Mason method, you know there are alot of books to read daily. I have decided that my older two ds will read the majority of their books on their own and narrate in theirnotebooks and orally to me. My younger will be read to by them and by me and then hopefully he will begin to read some on his own. We didn't finish 100 easy lessons this year we will continue to work on that here and there in the summer and this coming year also. I am very excited, once again, about planing and starting a new year. We are hoping to sell the mobile home we live in to get a house, so please pray we will sell ASAP! I do hope I will be blogging more often. It really does me good to get it all down in print. KWIM!!!

Blessings,

julie

Fish!

Posted in school issues

Well Christmas is over and I have finished all the after-Christmas shopping that I can afford to do! We had a good Christmas. The boys got a fish tank for Christmas. We have had the system running since Christmas and were told by Petsmart that we needed to have the tank operating for a week before we introduced fish into it. I know nothing about fish, the choosing or the care of them, so any advice you could give would be great! It is a 10 gallon tank. There is a pump, heater, and light.

Thanks!

Tuesday school

Posted in school issues

We will learn about the fruit of goodness and about God's goodness to us, we will practice our math facts more, since neither one of my boys have them down (we will probably work on them until the New Year and then we will start back with Math-U-See), We will do day 2 in Lesson 3 of LLATL (tan). We will read the Legend of The Candy Cane found here: http://www.bethanyroberts.com/ChristmasCandyCanes.htm

We will make Reindeer candy cane ornaments to go in our baskets and decorate Christmas Cards to mail out this weekend.

Oh yeah, and we will journal our word of the day.

With my youngest, I will read with him and work on addition, he will fill in his daily chart and Christmas countdown page.

That is pretty much our day!

Blessings!

On the agenda today

Posted in school issues

Wow! It is getting soooo close to Christmas! Time is sure flying by for me, although I don't think my boys agree. They are counting down the days!

Today we are doing Monday activities, which are usually pretty relaxed, considering my house is a wreck from the weekend. I usually go to coffee and intercessory prayer on Sunday nights and when I get home the boys have really done a number on the house. So....on Mondays we(I) clean alot. We will listen to some more of the Christmas Carol, practice some math facts, do some Christmas worksheets, read a couple chapters in a book, and do a lesson in Language Arts.

What we actually accomplished today!

Posted in school issues

Well.....let's see.....we did alot of coloring in our advent books. My older ds usually doesn't color, but all of the sudden he is real interested. So they wanted to color more than just one today. We listened to a little bit of  A Christmas Carol. Then we did some Christmas worksheets. One which stated, "If you were an ornament on a tree, what would you be?" My middle son wrote that he would be lights on the tree, but that he wished his big brother was a glass ornament so he could bust him! I think he was trying to be funny.....you would just have to know his big brother and the nature of their relationship! We did all get a laugh out of it.

I probably won't get to write in the morning.....we will be very busy with a Beth Moore bible study I attend and piano lessons. Tomorrow will be worksheet day/review/run around day!

Blessings!

Goodness

Posted in school issues

I went to church tonight and the teaching was on the goodness of God and goodness, a fruit of the Holy Spirit. She talked about how light and dark are not opposites, but darkness is the absence of light....just like good and evil are not really opposite, but evil is the absence of goodness. Anyway she also mentioned how in the Chronicles Of Narnia it was said that "Aslan was not safe....he was good". We are to have a fear of God, because He is powerful. In His goodness he is just.

Last week we learned about the fruit of love, so this week I went over it with my boys at breakfast. I will probably hit on God's goodness and the fruit of the Spirit, goodness, this coming week. I pray that they will really have revelation to God's goodness.

dough ornaments

Posted in school issues

I am responding to a comment about our air dry dough ornaments. The ornaments we made yesterday came from store bought air dry dough that you can buy at Michael's craft store, but we are going to attemt to make some from scratch also. Here is the site you can get the recipe from: http://www.lessonplanspage.com/ArtScienceChristmasPlaydoughOrnaments13.htm

The store bought turned out beautiful....hope the homemade ones do too! I will let you know.

Unexcused absence!

Posted in school issues

Well.... I have no excuse for being absent from my blog except that we have been BUSY!!! We started school in August and it is going well. We have had some struggles, but we are still here! We were studying rocks and slowly working through Story of the World vol 1, but with Thanksgiving and Christmas I have just decided to focus on Christ's birth and the spirit of giving. We are making ornaments and gifts in a jar to put in baskets for some of our family. So far we have painted wooden ornaments and yesterday we cut out air dry dough ornaments. If they are dry today we will paint them. We have also been coloring our own Christmas Story Books that we will read together on Christmas day. http://www.dltk-bible.com/advent/index.htm  I hope to be able to post on a regular basis....we shall see!

Seeing the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living,

Julie

A Great Geography Activity!

Posted in school issues

Now before I even begin I cannot take any credit for this. I can't remember the site I got this off of, because I didn't bookmark it. I actually tried to find it again, but to no avail.

Here it is: You buy a beach ball at the dollar store and the put the name of the States and their capitals with a permanent marker, then you toss the ball to each other and wherever your left hand lands you say aloud the name of the State and capital. When everyone has become familiar with them you just say the state name and someone else says the corresponding capital.

Doesn't that sound like FUN!!!

We are also going to do our numbers and letters for my 5yr. old, since he can't read yet.

Postcard Collection!

Posted in school issues

We are starting a postcard collection for our family(or maybe I should say I am, I am hoping they will all jump on board, KWIM). If there are any collectors out there who would like to trade with us we can send Georgia cards.

We would like to have them mailed to get the postmark. If interested leave a comment!

Blessings!

Well.......

Posted in school issues

It is the week-END! I am so glad! We had a very busy week. Now I can take the weekend to re-group/re-gather/re-coup! I have decided for summer we are going to do a bird unit. I havn't worked out the details, but it should be interesting....considering I'm not real creative, so if any of you have any ideas I would greatly appreciate them! I want it to be fun, fun! I have ordered a Peterson field guide. We should get it in the next week or so.

I really need ideas!

Thanks in advance!

Blessings,

Julie:)

Character / attitude

Posted in school issues

Well, I know that I haven't been at it very long, but after a couple of months of "school work" I would really like to work on some heart issues. I am looking, and especially praying, about how to go about it. I have looked at a couple websites, but nothing that looked right. I have considered doing fruit of the Spirit study or character study. I don't know yet. Either way I want it to be fun and interesting for him and me. He has had a hard time dealing with people and I would also like to work on that. Any prayer or suggestions would be great. I am still excited about home schooling and plan to enjoy!

Blessings!

Hello, I am homeschooling my 3 precious sons, who are growing up right before my very eyes! I praise the Lord for the opportunity to have my boys at home with me. What an awesome blessing!!!
