Home management board.

I am always inspired by all those home management binders  out there. I have tried it, but I realized, (with the help of  Pamonkey )that  I needed something more " In my face". With so many littles around it is easy to get distracted. So We bought a big ( 3' by 4') magnetic dry erase board. On it I placed:

My daily schedule. I laminated it so I could cross each task off.

Then I made a box for each day of the week, and in it wrote chores that pertain to that specific day.

There is a box for jobs that take 5 minutes ( to keep me productive)

Then lists for special projects, my husbands projects, school and general notes

I also hung a calendar to keep on top of changes in schedule.

I find that I am more apt to stick to the routine if it is right there. I kept misplacing, rather burring, my binder. I still use a binder to store paper work though.

This is working so far. I am just starting out a defining my own home management system. I really think that is the key to any system.....making it your own.

Check out Rocks in my dryer for more great ideas.

I'm SO liking this! I wish I had the room somewhere. Do you think this could be done with a smaller board? Hmmm...I might be able to throw away my Palm! LOL

I, too, am a binder failure. I love the magnetic/dry erase board idea! I need that kind of "in your face" visual, too. Welcome to HSB!

This is a great idea Cammie. I have been lost since I left my home management binder on top of the car and drove away. I really need in your face stuff to keep me on track or else I wander around.

Yes! It is very close to my method. I didn't see it when I posted mine. Great minds think alike! : ) A friend suggested a system like yours, but I don't have anywhere to post a board.

I've been using my system, not perfectly mind you, for the last 3 years or so. Some weeks I get everything, other weeks not. It's been really helpful.

What an awesome idea! We have a large calendar (the blotter type you would use on your desk) taped to the fridge. I use to keep a small calendar with everything on it, but dh never knew what was going on. He likes the one he can see at a glance, especially during the busy baseball season.

Welcome to the blogosphere...your little monkeys are adorable...love the red hair!

Blessings,

Angela

I've had a similar , but smaller,non-magnetic, board running for two years and it's wonderful. I don't update it enough sometimes as the pens go missing, but the "in your face" style really works for the memory cells. Congratulations on the success this is bringing you and your wonderful family!

Thursday, May 29, 2008 - I can't imagine

I can't even imagine a system like that - gads, I would forget to use it at all!. but then, I don't use any system except a mental one - yes, I forget sometimes. I wish I could be more organized, but I just somehow can't.

Fortunately, I won't need to worry about in 10 more days. We are taking off then to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina - and I won't have to remember all those dates at all! Now if I could only keep all the stuff I have to do BEFORE we leave organized... sigh...

Hi there from "Down Under" (New Zealand)

I LOVE your idea, I've also done the clipboard list thing a few years (and a few children) ago, but I started to get frustrated when I couldn't remember where I'd left it!!!

Could you also email me a larger photo so I can see the caterogies (etc) you have headed up?

Many thanks

Liz :)

Thank you so much for sharing your home management board. I am an over organizer and great book lover. I am trying to help my daughter set up her own organization system. Our problem is that while I read, digest and plan on paper...she is a more visual person who needs that..."In your face" concept. I knew what she needed but not how to help her in a way that would work for her. Thank you again and my your children are beautiful. Bless you all. Patti
