Sooo......This is kinda funny. I was surfing random blogs and came across a contest. I got really excited and decided to do it. The prize was a 25$ gift certificate, after all! Every little bit counts, right? Anyway, there were three questions to answer. 1. Why do you home school 2. Do you plan on homeschooling through graduation? Why or why not? 3. What advice would you give to a friend thinking about homeschooling.
So, I began to write. Then I asked my husband for help and we began to write together. We were having a great time going over these things. We worked on this for over three hours, when I decided to check the questions again. Then I noticed the date on the post.......Um..........August 15th. Nevermind ......, It was fun anyway. It really was. We enjoyed defining why we home school and why we are 100 % committed. So, I will post what we wrote here. Also, through doing this my husband was inspired to write...so, he may be an occasional contributor to this blog which I am thrilled about. He has strong opinions and unique insight.....It will be fun! Without further ado....Our contest entry!
I am so blessed that God has given me a husband that is just as excited about homeschooling as I am. We couldn't imagine letting anyone else have this honor. The Word tells us "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he shall not depart from it." (prov. 22:6) God has given us the ability to lead our children to follow him. Our ultimate success lies not in riches or education, but in raising godly seed.
We have no intentions of over sheltering our children. However, we refuse to place them in a circumstance of confusion, by teaching them of the dangers of this world and then abandoning them to it. I don't recall the Lord telling us that we (the parents of our children)are incapable of doing the task that he has committed to us. Even if worse came to worse, we would rather they be academically ignorant than to be wise in the deceits and filfth of this world. We will see this task to the end. If your thinking about home schooling, fear should not hold you back. You will be going against the grain. Many people will not like it, even despise it. Maybe some from your own family. You have to be convinced of what the Word says and stand on it. No amount of education or training could ever prepare you to teach your children the way their creator can-. Niether should you let your own selfish desires hold you back. Consider what is best for your children and live accordingly. God has made you the parents and that is a mission to be taken with all seriousness and passion.
Psalm127 Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain . It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man: so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. |
