My husband is the music director and worship leader for one of the services at our church: Covenant Presbyterian in Cherry Hill, NJ. He picked this song for Sunday, and I was so moved by the message in this hymn that I wanted to share it with whomever stops by.
How deep the Father's love for us, how vast beyond all measure That He should give His only Son to make a wretch His treasure How great the pain of searing loss, the Father turns His face away As wounds which mar the Chosen One bring many sons to glory
Behold the man upon a cross, my sin upon His shoulders Ashamed I hear my mocking voice call out among the scoffers It was my sin that held Him there until it was accomplished His dying breath has brought me life - I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything, no gifts no power no wisdom But I will boast in Jesus Christ, His death and resurrection Why should I gain from His reward; I cannot give an answer But this I know with all my heart; His wounds have paid my ransom
Going to print this one out--- I have to say I am not incredible fond of hymn music--- but the words so stir my soul. Most contemporary music/lyrics so lack the conviction and humility demonstrated in the hymns of old.
I'm a Worship leader at Lutheran church in Oregon. (Very different style of worshipt team though). How Deep the Father's Love is one of our favorite pieces. We do it with a celtic feel and flute. It truly is a gorgeous song and the words are easy to sing when you don't think about them too much. But if you really focus on them, I find it hard to sing through it...very convicting.
I see you haven't been here in a while. I hope you will come back. In fact,

I'm not sure who you are, but thank you for these lyrics! I have had this song running through my head at work all day and was searching for the lyrics. If I have them to read I can refocus after hearing another song on a radio that pulls me out of this wonderful sanctuary Christ has led me to today!
This blog is a look into our homeschooling journey as we use Tapestry of Grace. You'll also find stories from various books I have collected that are now in the public domain and real life slipping in occasionally. Most posts from the public domain books have a pdf that you may download and print. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
