Let me say that this must be one of the best ideas I have heard of.... especially if you are like me and return a stack of books, a week later!! I stopped checking out books and videos at the Library just because I couldn't get them back on time. It is not like I am overly busy as some families, I just forget what day it is. LOL.

May. 9, 2009 - Humble Chief Gain National Attention

      How about a story that will touch your heart today? I got an email from an homeschool mom who lives across town from me. I did verify the information with Snopes.com to find that the story is TRUE. I am posting it here with the link of the original story for you.

     John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said that this little girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head ... but they failed to kill her.  She was cared for in John's hospital and is healing up, but continues to cry and moan.  The nurses said John is the only one who seems to calm her down, so John has spent the last four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair. The girl is coming along with her healing.  He is a real Star of the war, and represents what  America is trying to do. 
  
     This, my friends, is worth sharing.  Go for it!!  You'll never see things like this in the news.  Please keep this going.  Nothing will happen if you don't, but the American public needs to see pictures like this and needs to realize that what we're doing over there is making a difference.  Even if it is just one little girl at a time.

Johan's Ark or Ark van Johan is a half-length model of Noah's Ark built by Dutch creationist Johan Huibers. The replica is half the length of that given in the Bible, 150 cubits or 70 metres. Johan's model is 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. The Bible reports Noah was commanded to build an ark having a length of 300 cubits, a width of 50 cubits, and a height of 30 cubits.

Huibers built the ship in the harbour of Schagen, 45km north of Amsterdam, in one and a half year time; in 2007 he opened the doors to visitors. After a few months he sailed, towed by tugboat, through canals in the Netherlands and moored in the harbours of Rotterdam and Arnhem.

The Opening Day was mentioned on Fox News website.

Hoping to Renew Interest in Christianity in the Netherlands

Working Replica of Noah's Ark Opened In SCHAGEN, Netherlands . The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was opened the first crowd of curious townsfolk to behold the wonder. Of course, it's half a replica of the biblical Ark , built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible. In Scriptures, the ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide.

Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold. A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine. Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would have been.

Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005. On the uncovered top deck - not quite ready in time for the opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel.

Visitors on the first day were stunned. 'It's past comprehension', said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw the ark looming over the local landscape.

'I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big.' There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark. Huibers, a Christian man, said he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, where church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.

My thoughts.....

WOW! This is totally awesome! Even if it is only HALF the scale model according to Scripture, it does give us an idea how big the Ark really was. Just think for those who ever doubted the Bible as Truth will be able to clearly comprehend the reality of "the big boat" story.

     I posted another small booklet in my file manager that I wanted to share with you. You see I LOVE being organized! I love the conveneience of having ONE document that contains what I need in a certain area. For instance, all of my school forms in one document, all my home management documents in one file, all my copywork pages in one file, etc...

     In this document you will find two types of passports. One of them is for virtual field trips while the other one can be used for variety of things such as Geography or History. The ideas are endless!! I like this one because it is one that your child can personalize by coloring it! It even includes some stamps that can be used for various locations or you can create your own!!

     We use these notebook pages with our Bible. When we read a Chapter with our studies then I had my daughter to draw out what we read. This helps to reinforce key point in Scripture, not to mention using the creative side of the brian!
