Winter and Routine
Winter decided to finally make her appearance here in Constanta with temperatures near freezing for the past two days. The forecast called for snow but the sun has been shining brightly. Sun with teeth, the Romanians say. This old house, lacking insulation, freely invited the chill of winter to join us in our happy home. Thankful for warm clothes, blankets, candles burning and wishing for a few more rugs, we continued with life. Today we attempted routine but I am not sure that I remember what that is.
It was ten in the morning and the children were still snug in their beds. I hated to wake them but knew that we must somehow, sometime consider setting aside a reasonable amount of time for learning.
On Sunday, I made a list of what I hoped to accomplish academically. My children do much better with a list. I do not believe they could ever be unschoolers, even if I could. They want to know where they are going and how much effort it will take to get them there. I suspect their main thoughts are not about how much they might learn that day but how much electronic time they will be given if they are successful.
Tasks were completed. Lists checked off. Was everything done? No, but tomorrow is another day. Another opportunity for learning. Another chance to search for routine. Has Winter come to your home?

As I look out the window, it is snowing profusely. Even though we homeschool, snow days present a problem all their own. I guess I could count it as PE when all he really wants to do is be outside in the snow.

Yes, winter has arrived here. At 9 PM, it is already down to 27 and to go down 10 more degrees at least. I know that for some parts of our country, that is not unusual. For the southern states, that is very low.

What a great saying! I love things like that. I'm a list person too, I don't get anything done without one.
Must feel good to be settled back at home :-)

I love your template!
Yes, winter has arrived. The daytime tems have been no higher than 35-40 with WIND. And, nighttime temps in the teens. Expecting a good ole southern possible ice/snow storm, too. We are excited...oh, just 1" of snow would be an event.
II share your struggle for routine. But life seems so busy that a routine is almost a moot point some weeks.

Sun with teeth (though deceiving), is still better than those dreary gray days!
My challenge is not getting the kids out of their warm beds at 10am, but myself! We're not very effective as unschoolers, sure the kids like to play all day, but not a lot of real learning takes place. We need the assignment lists too!
Stay warm!

"Sun with Teeth" I will have to remember that one!
It is freezing here in Wisconsin, and we, too have a drafty house. But, nothing that a cup of hot chocolate and an electric blanket can't cure, right? ;-)
Blessings,
