Hey everyone,
This is Karen’s daughter, aka Narniagirl. Mom, aka SurvivorMom, hasn’t had much time to be posting, because, well… she’s too busy surviving! 
Really, I wanted to get on here and tell you how GREAT my mom is! She works so very hard to keep our household running, and she truly is the sticky glue that keeps us all together. I don’t know what any of us would do without her.
Her days are VERY full. Besides taking care of us, Mom also works from home, by doing both a part-time job and childcare. She also is very faithful at taking care of my dad, who can’t work because of his disability.
My mom has so many great qualities. She’s caring, compassionate, kind, loving, and has the patience that I lack. But most of all I admire her unwavering faith. She’s been through a lot in her life, but she still loves God with all her heart. She is the best example I could ever ask for. I know her reward will be great in heaven.
I love you so much, Mom!

“Mom Moments”
The Lord has laid it on my heart to pray for us as moms. We have an awesome task in front of us each day to nurture, love, care for, and teach our children. In addition to our children’s needs, we are called by God to submit, love, admire, respect, and cherish our husbands. Let’s not forget the daily responsibilities we face in our home and how things can be thrown into a whirlwind at any moment’s notice. Things do not always go as planned. Battles were not always predicted during wartime. We are standing on a battleground. We have chosen to keep our children at home and focus on what is most important… “training our children in the way they should go.” As we train, we face many arrows: stress, fear, worry, irritability, fatigue, frustration, comparisons. The list goes on. It is no small wonder to me that the enemy uses these many things to get us off focus each day because we are doing God’s work. Let’s join our forces together and pray for the opposites: peace, perfect love, hope, happiness, strength, patience, and confidence.
I Thessalonians 5:16 – 18 “Be joyful always; Pray continually; Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” |

Mar. 4, 2008 The Power of Validation
It had been a long day. I had just finished dealing with one child over a very difficult issue and had to unexpectedly take Steve to a doctor’s appointment. It was a race of the clock to get dinner on the table in time, comfort my youngest, and head out the door for a homeschool meeting. The last thing I wanted to do was get into the car and drive to church. I had already promised to be there early. As it was, I was barely able to make it on time. I picked up a good friend on the way, and she asked how we were doing.
I shared some of the many whirlwinds we had been dealing with the past week or two and how difficult things had been in our home. And then, an amazing thing happened. She validated me. She told me how she could understand our situation and how certain changes were affecting us. She said she could understand why I felt frustrated and fearful and that it was a natural part of being human. She validated my heavy load, mostly because she had been in situations before that had made her feel the same way.
As we continued our evening, God continued to work on my weary and heavy laden heart through a time of relationship building within our small group. We were given questions to answer, but as we opened up and shared within our group, our discussions turned in different angles. We were sharing common ground in homeschool issues, but began understanding each other in deeper ways. Another homeschool mom and I shared a common problem, and it also validated me to know I was not alone in what I was facing. I had two compassionate ears listen to me that evening, and because of that I felt renewed and refreshed. A feeling of heaviness had lifted.
Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” I believe that often times when we are in need of rest, God places people within our lives to listen, encourage, and build up. In essence, they represent Jesus to us. They give us listening ears and show compassion in our needful moments. They remind us that God is still there, meeting our weary hearts even when we are trying our hardest to be strong. We often go through things ourselves just for the very purpose of being there for someone else down the road.
Know in your deepest and darkest moments that God has people available to listen to you, understand you, and validate you. But, know also that soon, you yourself will be able to do the same for others in their time of need, because you’ve been there. |

Nov. 26, 2007 What is your gift?
| Christmas is a season where we often think long and hard about the gifts we want to give to others. I am going to step aside from that thought for a change and ask you to think about yourself for a brief moment. One thought I have had on my mind recently is the gifts that Jesus wants to give to us. Aside from the most precious gift of all, the Son of God, I believe that God desires to bless you with other gifts this season. He has a desire to bless you with gifts that words cannot explain and something that you haven't experienced before.
What is inside your gift? Do you see the wrapping on the outside? Isn't it beautiful? Or, do you tend to notice someone else's gift across the room? Have you opened your gift yet? We are often blessed with things that we know are from God. Yet, do we take the time to find the mystery deep within the package? What is that special thing inside that He has picked out just for you and the moment of life you are in? Are you willing to strip away the wrapping that is already so beautiful and dig a little deeper? What will you receive? Better yet, what do you want or desire? How will you be blessed by your Heavenly Father who loves you so much?
If we surrender to God and accept His gift, we will move into situations and circumstances that God has blessed us "for such a time as this." (Esther 4:14) It is these times when we discover the secret of being content in His plan and purpose for our lives, no matter what season we're in. May you be blessed deeply and far beyond all you can think or imagine as you discover a special and brand new gift from Him!
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! - Matthew 7:11
…and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Often Sunday nights seem to feel overwhelming as I think about my week to come, what's on my calendar, and all that needs to get done. I can easily get discouraged that I didn't get everything done that I wanted to over the weekend, after all we didn't have school scheduled. I start thinking, I'll never get it all done this week. I even wish I could start back to school with all the laundry done and a fresh clean house.
However, weekends tend to bring some rest moments for me too, therefore I am learning to change my way of thinking. I realize, that I do still get a lot done on the weekends. I make sure my family is fed and bathed (not that they don't take showers during the week), I do some laundry, we go to church, I take care of a few things here and there. I also spend time with my husband and kids. And I take some time to rest. It's so valuable that we do that as homeschooling moms and not try to squeeze everything in on the weekends. God even asks us to do it, so that we can rejeuvenate ourselves and be the best for our children.
Monday is just another day to do the things God has called me to do, and I can take things one at a time. I'm learning to do that. "What's next, Lord?", not "How will I ever get it all done?" Life is a continuous flow of circumstances, and you never know what your day will bring regardless of how much planning you do. Living life as a mom is all about taking baby steps. Babies when they are first learning how to walk are focused upon their mom or dad just a few inches away. They don't pay attention to the towering furniture around them or how big the room is. They don't think about the puppy that will come around the corner and knock them down in a momen't notice. Babies focus on their caretaker. That's how we will remain at peace and joy, when we focus on our Caretaker. |

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who commented on my blog and gave such encouraging words. You all had good points and I would love to respond to each of you individually, but right now it's just not feasable.
We have spent the last four days fighting colds and sickness in our home. We've managed to watch Mr. Holland's Opus, Anne of Green Gables, Over the Hedge, and have a few more spare rentals, just in case. Laundry has piled up and dishes barely managed to get done. It's the week before Thanksgiving, and we will be winging it with school. Luckily the Principal called off all regular subjects. We will focus on being thankful this week, read some stories about the Pilgrims, and listen to The Legend of Squanto on our way to Thanksgiving Dinner. It will be nice to have a little different change of pace. Hopefully we are all better by Thanksgiving Day and have things at least semi-caught up.
With the holidays approaching it's hard to not hit the panic button. I know things get busy this time of year, and I am just praying for God's grace to carry me each and every day. I do not want my joy from the season stolen by the dread of busyness I often feel. I believe this time of year is a time for relationships, yet the enemy often steals opportunities from us because of our busy schedules and holiday planning. Often getting together with families can be more of a strenuous time then uplifting. God is the author of our relationships, and He has written a new chapter for us this season. Let us embrace and grasp the gifts He has given us through our friends, families, and those we hold especially close to our hearts. Be thankful for the relationships God has placed in your life, for we do not know how long we will have them. I lost my father to brain cancer 21 years ago this Christmas. I still think of him often and wonder what he would of thought of my life now.

Well, here I am. I have been asked many times by my loving and talented husband whether or not I wanted to start a blog. In fact, he has continually urged me to do so. Within the last month, he set up a blog for my daughter, and now she has joined in the begging for me to have my own blog, as well This morning, when I told him that I almost got up last night to write, he instantly took the initiative and set me up.
When I broke the news to my daugher that Daddy had set up a blog for me, she sighed in awe and covered her mouth with great surprise. She even said it was her birthday wish (it's a ways away if that says anything)!
My greatest hesitation in starting a blog has been the time committment. It seems life is already so crazy that to sit down and take the time to write seems extrememly difficult. We were at the library last night and one lady commented to me that we were a reading family because of how many books we carried out. It dawned on me that the 3 year old had ten books and everyone else had about 15 books each. I got none. It seems reading is also up the same alley of finding the right time. Whenever I do try it, my eyes start to cross because I get so tired. Yet my kids devour books like there is no tomorrow. My daugher recently read all 5 books of the AD Chronicles by Brock & Bode Thoene in 11 days. Book one is still sitting on my nightstand hoping to be read by yours truly.
All that to say, I will give this blog thing a shot, since I know it can also be an uplifting and encouraging experience in more ways than one. It will probably help me to process some of my many thoughts, but also open a new avenue of support.
Bear with me, my eyes are already starting to cross ....
