Baby Steps

Often Sunday nights seem to feel overwhelming as I think about my week to come, what's on my calendar, and all that needs to get done.  I can easily get discouraged that I didn't get everything done that I wanted to over the weekend, after all we didn't have school scheduled.  I start thinking, I'll never get it all done this week.  I even wish I could start back to school with all the laundry done and a fresh clean house.

However, weekends tend to bring some rest moments for me too, therefore I am learning to change my way of thinking.  I realize, that I do still get a lot done on the weekends.  I make sure my family is fed and bathed (not that they don't take showers during the week), I do some laundry, we go to church, I take care of a few things here and there.  I also spend time with my husband and kids.  And I take some time to rest.  It's so valuable that we do that as homeschooling moms and not try to squeeze everything in on the weekends.  God even asks us to do it, so that we can rejeuvenate ourselves and be the best for our children.

Monday is just another day to do the things God has called me to do, and I can take things one at a time.  I'm learning to do that.  "What's next,  Lord?",  not  "How will I ever get it all done?"  Life is a continuous flow of circumstances, and you never know what your day will bring regardless of how much planning you do.  Living life as a mom is all about taking baby steps.  Babies when they are first learning how to walk are focused upon their mom or dad just a few inches away.  They don't pay attention to the towering furniture around them or how big the room is.  They don't think about the puppy that will come around the corner and knock them down in a momen't notice.  Babies focus on their caretaker.  That's how we will remain at peace and joy, when we focus on our Caretaker.

Hi Karen,
Nancy B. here. :) This reminded me of Elisabeth Elliot~ She had said "do the next thing" and she was so close to the Lord. Lists and plans are so good to have, but listening to His plans are so much better!

We love you guys,
Nancy and family

I must admit that we actually do school on Saturday's...since dh is usually working. The only day we regularly take off is Sunday-- that's busy enough with church, practices at church, and Sun night basketball/playtime for dh and the boys. B-U-S-Y!

I usually do not accomplish everything on my To-Do List in the course of a week (or even day!). *sigh* I admit that I usually "feel behind" in our lessons, even though we school year round.

BUT God has been good and gracious to me! My kids are still learning, my husband is happy, the house is (relatively) clean (although there is ALWAYS laundry to do...again...)...all of this in spite of my natural tendency to want to get my whole To-Do List done in one day!

Since all those things to do will still be there to do tomorrow (does that make sense?), I have begun to learn to relax a bit and enjoy the moments or opportunities that come up. Be it skating with the kids, watching something with my hubby (which is TOTALLY against my nature), or waste time looking at cookbooks. :-) I can always run errands, vaccuum, or do laundry tomorrow-- even if I did them once already today. So I might as well just enjoy it.

Okay, I started this comment with a POINT and somehow lost it along the way-- sorry!

Anyhow, I hope you have a great week, Karen, and that your weekend is a time of true rest and refreshment.

God bless you,
Marsha

Thanks for the encouraging words...I so often get overwhelmed with all the hats to wear and such. My very first post on my very new blog says just that. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone and can't be expected to do everything everyday!
In Him,
Rebecca
