Two years ago today, on a Saturday morning, I woke up wanting to watch some cartoons. To my dismay, there was not any on. All of the channels were filled with news about somebody named Katrina. I did not take any notice to whatever it was that was on the news. I figured that my cartoons would eventually come on. So I sat in the floor playing a game waiting, and waiting, and waiting, but the news story on this Katrina person continued.
A couple hours later, all of my family was awake and off with there own business. No cartoons had come on yet. The sky outside our house had become very dark. I decided to watch the news and see if it would give a weather report and to my surprise, it gave the weather report every couple minutes. They were still talking about this Katrina person. As I watched, I learned that Katrina was a hurricane, not a person. When I figured this out, I began to be worried because of how dark it was. I asked my mom but she said not to worry. So I went on with my day assuming my cartoons would never come on.
A month later, I awoke early one morning to here the sound of our car starting and I remembered what it was. My mom had been going to a camp every morning that had been designated a temporary living space for Katrina refugees. There she was donating her time and working very hard taking people who did not have cars anymore around town. She also was going to give out tracts and Bibles but she quickly found out that many of them could not read. So she put much effort into teaching these people herself. This went on for about a month. Many of the people left to go home and many of them decided to never go back and moved to a new place. The camp cleared out and my mom stopped going every morning but this event of Katrina... I will never forget.
