Truth is stranger than fiction.

After this entry, I am not going to blog about spiders ever again.  However, I have to tell all of you that are following our Shelob saga to first of all, get a life!....no, I'm just kidding!!!  What I have to tell you is that Shelob, or a very convincing look-alike, somehow made her way into our house and was found hanging from Harrison's doorway.  And now I'm not kidding!  Can you believe that?!  What a cheeky spider!  My only guesses is to why she did this are:  a)  We let her live, it was getting chilly, and she moved in to be our pet  or  b)  We poked and prodded her web one too many times, and she was coming to suck our blood.  Either way it totally freaked us out.

Now, I'm assuming if you're still reading this nonsense, you're probably wondering what we did about it.  Well, we called Damon of course.  He recommended Annaleigh's toy bug vacuum.  After examining the contraption, I realized the opening is about 1/2 in, and Shelob is huge.  So, another call to Damon....a hysteric one this time...begging him to please come home and do something about this demon...uh, I mean spider.  He came, and decided due to size and a fairly recent paint job, that squishing was not the answer, so he got our Oreck handheld vacuum and sucked her up.  We were pretty sure that the whole process might have been her end, especially since she hadn't been on her web to eat in 2 days, but after emptying it in the front yard, she actually crawled out!  Just wait...it gets even better.  The next day she was back on her web, acting like the whole episode had never happened.  Again, I say, cheeky spider!

Well, another 2 days pass, and she's gone again.  Well, the kids melted down.  They thought she was everywhere...their bedrooms, the bathroom, under the beds, etc.  So Damon, did what needed to be done 2 months ago, went out to find her and sprayed her down with WD-40.

I have some pictures of her hanging from the doorframe, but my camera's downstairs, and I don't feel like fooling with it right now, so you'll just have to take my word for it .  And trust me, I know it's hard to believe....

OK...so I'm finally getting around to adding this picture (It's now 10/25/06).  So for all of you sceptics, here you go....

Well, I am certainly glad that Shelob is gone and I won't have the um, pleasure...of making her acquaintance!

Hello there, Kellie!
First, there is NO WAY you should be allowed to post a picture that close up of a spider as what you did on your previous entry. Second, we had one of these things in our kitchen last fall, and Carl was traveling. I had to knock it down and then take a ball jar and place it over the creature, then cover it with a cloth napkin so that I could not see it. He "took care of it" when he got home. I, of course, assumed that he sent it "to the sea," however it then made a home in the corner right outside of my kitchen window so that I could see it when I was washing dishes. Thankfully, it was only about 2 weeks until the frost, and from what we could tell there was no egg sac.

Debbie surely does not need to be visiting Shelob after the Palmetto Bug scares she's had...hee hee
